Facebook and Google have extended their planned one-week bans on political ads, as Trump and GOP continue their claims of voter fraud

which they're now letting run wild during a critical moment for our democracy. https://twitter.com/... @rmac18 : One internal Facebook saying is, “Nothing at Facebook is someone else's problem.” The company had years to prepare for electoral scenarios like the one in Georgia. And all it has are excuses. @fboversight : Oh lookie here. Our dear friends from @Facebook are tasked with fact checking disinformation on its platform but can't even agree that @JoeBiden and @KamalaHarris are the projected winners of the #Election2020... https://twitter.com/... Dan Pfeiffer / @danpfeiffer : Facebook is giant problem for democracy. They have massive reach, a huge Right Wing bias, spread disinformation like wildfire, and most the policy decisions are made by GOP operatives whose primary goal is not avoid angering their Republican friends. https://twitter.com/... Patrick Stevenson / @stevensonpj : the two biggest institutional threats to our democracy are the Republican Party and Facebook https://twitter.com/... Roger McNamee / @moonalice : FB pretends that the outcome of the election is not known. This is beyond irresponsible. https://twitter.com/... Brooke Auxier / @brookeauxier : 54% of U.S. adults say social media companies should not allow any political advertisements on their platforms, according to a September 2020 @pewresearch survey ➡️https://www.pewresearch .org/ ... https://twitter.com/... Jason Kint / @jason_kint : Good. Of course... “It came after the FT reported that several advertisers had complained on Tuesday that they were “frustrated” that they had not been notified whether the ban was to be extended or not, despite reaching out to the companies for clarity.” https://amp.ft.com/... Senate Democrats / @dscc : By banning political ads, @Facebook and @Google are actively harming efforts to inform Georgia's voters about the runoffs. These ad bans are voter suppression and there must be an exemption for Georgia over the next two months. https://www.wsj.com/... See also Mediagazer

Facebook *still* refuses to acknowledge that Biden won the election. They are complicit in misleading the public and undermining faith in democratic institutions. https://twitter.com/...

This is a straw man. The problem isn't the ads. It's Facebook's unwillingness to regulate those ads and their inability to control organic disinformation on their platform—which they're now letting run wild during a critical moment for our democracy. https://twitter.com/...
