In Mark Zuckerberg's prepared testimony for Wednesday's Senate hearing, he advocates for Congress to update Section 230 to “make sure it's working as intended”

This shouldn't be much of a surprise, unfortunately, but it appears that once again Facebook is the first to crack …

Mark Zuckerberg calling for rewriting Section 230 and also saying that Facebook is the only service that can afford to moderate the Internet is everything you need to know about the dangers of rewriting Section 230.

Do you crave online speech monoculture? Do you want Facebook to run it? Or, hell, maybe like two other companies can, too. Do you want to give up on competition goals in favor of content moderation goals? Then you should definitely endorse whatever CDA 230 reform Facebook does.

I'm starting to come around to the idea that Section 230 should be amended to make sure that Mark Zuckerberg, and ONLY Mark Zuckerberg, doesn't get the benefit of it. But for everyone else - big, small, rich, poor, company or individual, commercial or nonprofit - it's essential. …

Dorsey and Pichai will stump for section 230, while Zuckerberg will argue for more reform to the law (230 is part of the Communications Decency Act of 1996 that shields platforms from liability for what is posted to their sites) more from @mmasnick below https://www.techdirt.com/…

Mark Zuckerberg should have to read through the comments left on my Facebook posts from haters. The polarization of America was accelerated by social media platforms, which now also feed dangerous conspiracy theories and misinformation. This needs fixing. Fast.

The great irony of Section 230 reform is that it's written by people who hate Big Tech but will ultimately enrich and entrench Big Tech in its current form https://twitter.com/...

Jack Dorsey's testimony tomorrow before the Senate Commerce Committee is the “right” and “accurate” message, argues @mmasnick on @techdirt. “And it will be stomped on by the message from Zuckerberg agreeing to throw the open internet under a speeding bus.” https://www.techdirt.co…

Republicans: Section 230 “reform” will not give you Internet freedom. It will impose competitive burdens on small companies and entrench Facebook's power forever. Don't fall for it. https://twitter.com/...

Of course Zuckerberg and Josh Hawley are on the same side here. Nothing would entrench Facebook more than a bunch of regulatory compliance costs and barriers to entry stifling potential competitors, while Congress gets the federal government to do part of his job for him. https:/…

Recently, I said that you should be very wary about government agencies pushing for online speech regulation. You should be even more wary when those same calls for reform are coming from Facebook. Make no mistake, FB knows #Section230 gives their competitors a fighting chance. h…

FB successfully built massive compliance functions for NetzDG and GDPR and was rewarded with barriers to competition, which probably plays into their new US strategy. I also still expect moderation-as-a-service to be FB's next product line, and this would create demand. https://t…

and right on cue, Mark Zuckerberg is planning to call on Congress to “reform” #Section230. that's because meddling with Section 230 will benefit Big Tech incumbents while crushing their competition & endangering human rights. A win, win, win for Facebook https://www.usatoday.com/…
