Judge denies Epic's motion to restore Fortnite to the App Store but orders Apple to not block Unreal Engine; full hearing scheduled for September 28

Apple is blocking Fortnite updates and new installs on the App StoreNick Statt / The Verge : Epic confirms Fortnite's new season won't be on iPhone, iPad, or Mac Joe Rossignol / MacRumors : Epic Games Confirms New Fortnite Season Won't Be Available on iOS or Mac Chance Miller / 9to5Mac : Epic says new Fortnite season won't be released on Mac or iOS due to legal dispute with Apple Jason Snell / Macworld : Epic versus Apple? Sarah Jeong / @sarahjeong : To Epic: “Your client created this situation. Your client does not come to this action with clean hands ..... in my view, you cannot have irreparable harm when you create the harm yourself.” Sarah Jeong / @sarahjeong : holy goddamn shit the cravath partner representing epic today is...... katherine b. forrest, the judge from the silk road case Rod Breslau / @slasher : Apple has released a statement following the judge's ruling, thanking the court for 'recognizing that Epic's problem is entirely self-inflicted' for why you can't play Fortnite on their phones right now https://twitter.com/... https://twitter.com/... Rod Breslau / @slasher : Epic using Fortnite as their shield has been able to do what congress with the most powerful, wealthy tech CEOs in the world in front of them was never able to: make people give a shit about antitrust law Paul Thurrott / @thurrott : @brianfagioli There is nothing there about a 30 percent fee. The three issues to decide on were Fortnite ban, Unreal engine ban, and Epic's Apple developer license. Apple won on the first, Epic won on the other two. Mark Gurman / @markgurman : Yes, as some are pointing out, Apple doesn't mention if they plan to still block Unreal Engine development/distribution. I have no reason to believe they won't follow the order. Sam Bowman / @s8mb : I was sceptical of Epic's motives in these lawsuits, but if even its own investors say it has good intentions, I guess that settles it. https://www.nytimes.com/... https://twitter.com/... Mark Gurman / @markgurman : Judge in Epic vs Apple case says she is “inclined” to NOT grant relief for the Fornite removal (as in, to not force Apple to put it back on the App Store,) but IS “inclined” to not let Apple block Epic from developing/distributing Unreal Engine. Inclined is not a decision. Mark Gurman / @markgurman : The Judge has now issued her official temporary order: Epic Games is NOT granted relief to get Fornite back on the App Store, but she is ordering Apple to NOT block development/distribution of Unreal Engine. https://twitter.com/... Brian Fung / @b_fung : The judge is expressing deep doubts about Apple's walled garden ecosystem. “If you have an iphone you can't buy [apps] from anyone else. You can't. You are limited to buying it from Apple.” “I can't buy it from Google. I can't buy it from Amazon. There is no competition.” Sarah Jeong / @sarahjeong : YGR: *mutes him on Zoom* I get to mute you. I get to interrupt you. I asked you a simple question: yes or no? @frank_supercell : The story continues - this likely means no @FortniteGame on mobile (through App Store & Google Play) for the upcoming Season 4. Really tough situation for the (mobile) player base and content creators who focused on Fortnite mobile. 😐 #epic #apple #fortnite https://twitter.com/...
