Today we're introducing Facebook Shops, which will make it easy for businesses to set up a single online store on both @facebookapp and @instagram, and soon @messenger and @WhatsApp too https://twitter.com/...

At first glance, great move. But Facebook and Instagram already have bloated UIs. The more stuff they squeeze in, the harder it becomes to find. https://twitter.com/...

Build a store on FB, you depend on FB for traffic. Build an independent store, you depend on Google for traffic. Become a seller on Amazon, you depend on Amazon for traffic. Eventually, you buy ads for that traffic.

Facebook is hoping that its 2.6bn users will shop on its platform, launching its biggest e-commerce play yet I interviewed Zuckerberg who told me FB will be able to use the new data to improve its advertising service & ad prices should rise as a result https://www.ft.com/...

Facebook directly integrating commerce across platforms (FB, Messenger, IG and WhatsApp) is going to take out a lot of friction for selling and buying. But, it will also make these businesses a lot more dependent on FB for traffic. https://about.fb.com/...

Another day, another battle in the platform wars “Facebook is hoping that its 2.6bn users will begin shopping on its platform, as it unveiled a service that puts it in direct competition with Amazon and eBay.” https://giftarticle.ft.com/...

THREAD: Facebook is expanding its “shops” feature that allows users to have in-app stores of their products. This is another example of the company expanding functions across its family of apps without first dealing with illicit content that plagues those features already 1/ http…

Shopify is a Facebook partner on this product FWIW. Zuckerberg is actually live with Shopify's CEO right now https://www.facebook.com/... https://twitter.com/...

I assume once FB controls a big enough customer funnel for these businesses, they'll drop the ‘ads are all that matters’ line and move to more direct ecommerce competition (rather than sending the transaction to Shopify or company websites)? https://twitter.com/...

As FB partners with Shopify, reminder that Amazon only has about 35% of US e-commerce, including marketplace, and Shopify powered $60bn of sales last year. Lots of important new things remain to be done in ecommerce.

Facebook is killing it. If Zuck wants to build his empire, it'll mean taking on Amazon, globally. #FacebookShops and the unification of @WhatsApp, @instagram Direct, and @messenger for #ConvComm pose a threat to Amazon's long term dominance. https://www.producthunt.com/ ... https…

Facebook found the holy grail of advertising in Instagram, where ads transform into actual transactions 💰 Now its time to expand that vision to Facebook blue with its 1.7+ billion daily active users $FB 👇 https://twitter.com/...

Also key: Zuckerberg has been very personally involved in this product. And as everyone knows, when the CEO gets involved, it means the product gets necessary attention and resources. FB has never nailed shopping/commerce, but not sure Zuck has ever been as invested either
