Google says it will not host an in-person I/O event this year, due to coronavirus fears, and will instead offer a series of online events

Following a string of other tech cancellations in recent days, Google just announced that it will not host an in-person I/O 2020 over coronavirus concerns.

Coronavirus has already dealt a half-billion-dollar blow to the tech industry's events economy

In lieu of a physical event, Google should consider hosting I/O as a series of messaging apps https://twitter.com/...

And there goes I/O. Still on the books for happening despite coronavirus is SXSW in less than two weeks, Microsoft Build in May, Apple's WWDC (although it's unannounced), and E3 in June. https://twitter.com/...

If you got a lottery attendee ticket for I/O 2020, it'll automatically be good if you want to use it for 2021 (and you'l get a refund). Google donating to Mountain view orgs: a million bucks, but I bet I/O did more than that for local economy ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ https://www.theverge.com/..…

I bet WWDC is already canceled, and Apple's just waiting to announce it until they have alternative plans arranged to announce with it. Live-streamed media-only keynote from SJ Theater, session videos all dropping on day 1, maybe even some kind of online labs?

Twitter is strongly encouraging all employees to work from home. This is *far* better than nothing. But at this point it should be mandatory work-from-home, while equipping employees to self-quarantine for an extended period till antivirals or vaccines. https://blog.twitter.com/.…
