Emoji Kitchen is the latest step in Gboard's long pivot from typing tool to expression engine: Google first added instant translation and automatic emoji and GIF suggestions to the Android keyboard in 2017, then spent 2018 building personalized stickers — the Bitmoji-like Mini stickers from selfies and the machine-learning Emoji Minis — before teaching the keyboard to suggest GIFs, emoji, and stickers matched to the conversation.
