This launch is the third step in a cadence AMD set in motion when it first unveiled Threadripper as a 16-core desktop part in May 2017 and shipped the 12- and 16-core 1920X/1950X at $799/$999 that August. A year later, Threadripper 2 pushed the ceiling to 32 cores on a 12nm process.

Today's announcement keeps that same 32-core peak but rebuilds it on 7nm Zen 2 and drops the entry point to $1,399 for 24 cores — and the arc keeps extending: by late 2023, Threadripper 7000 reaches 96 cores on the Pro series.
