Intel unveils 10th-gen Comet Lake CPUs with up to 6 cores for thin and light laptops, based on its Skylake CPU architecture and 14nm process

Capping off a busy few weeks for processors for Intel, today the company is announcing the second half of their product stack for their low-power 10th generation Core processors.

Two weeks after Intel rolled out its Ice Lake CPUs on the new 10nm Sunny Cove architecture, the company has filled out the rest of its low-power 10th-gen stack with Comet Lake — same generation, different lineage: up to six cores built on the [[a:928138|Skylake architecture that already delivered 6-core laptop chips in the 8th-gen lineup back in 2018]], now on the long-running 14nm process.

That makes Intel's '10th gen' a two-track launch — a new-architecture 10nm line for thin-and-light machines and a refreshed 14nm workhorse line — and the follow-on coverage shows the 14nm track scaling well beyond ultraportables before the transition completes.

  • Thin-and-light laptop makers get six-core U-series silicon today without waiting for 10nm supply, letting them ship higher core counts in existing chassis designs immediately.
  • Intel is now fielding two competing 10th-generation mobile product lines at the same power class — OEMs must choose between Ice Lake's newer architecture and graphics versus Comet Lake's higher core counts on proven 14nm.
