Instagram adds the questions sticker, a new way to poll your friends

Context & Ripple Effects
The questions sticker is Instagram's second major interactive sticker for Stories, following the polling stickers it added to Stories in October 2017. Where polls forced a binary choice, this opens free-text questions and answers inside the same sticker system.
It also lands mid-pipeline: two months later, app-code sleuthing surfaced quiz stickers among features hidden in Instagram's builds, and by April 2019 that shipped as multiple-choice quiz stickers. The questions sticker is the first step in a cadence of turning passive Story viewing into structured back-and-forth.
First-order effects
- Story posters gain a way to solicit open-ended replies from followers without asking them to switch to DMs, keeping the interaction inside the Story surface where reply volume is visible to the poster.
Second-order effects
- Each question-and-answer exchange generates notification-driven re-engagement — followers return to see responses — giving Instagram more session starts per sticker than one-tap polls produced.
Third-order effects
- If the poll-to-questions-to-quiz sequence holds, Stories converges on a toolkit of templated interaction formats, with Instagram shipping them incrementally rather than as one feature drop.
The trend: Instagram is steadily converting Stories from a broadcast format into an interactive one, shipping one sticker-based engagement mechanic at a time.
