This closes a loop that opened when Google put Lyft and Gett into Maps as ride-hailing options and later let riders hail an Uber without leaving Maps: Google has been positioning Maps as the neutral aggregation layer for ride-hailing, and Lyft is now reciprocating on the supply side by embedding Maps inside its driver app.

The move also extends a driver-experience push Lyft began weeks earlier with 24/7 phone support and destination-mode pickups — both changes treat driver retention as the competitive lever against Uber, which had already wired Apple Maps and Siri into its own iOS app.

  • Lyft drivers can navigate to pickups and destinations without toggling out of the Lyft app, cutting friction in the workflow where seconds per fare compound across a shift.
