Cloudflare says “a fix has been implemented and we believe the incident is now resolved”, after a major outage impacted X, ChatGPT, and others from 11:48am UTC

Outage comes around a month after Amazon Web Services outage also took much of the internet offline

wow. bullish google. took down chatgpt + half the internet for gemini 3 release.
  • @sxtvik @sxtvik on x
Surely no big deal that Cloudflare went down a month after AWS went down and that most infrastructure for essential communication, information, and human coordination now relies on these centralized companies. Completely normal outages and definitely not a scary test of any kind.

so we've had major AWS and Cloudflare outages all in a matter of weeks it's not DNS there's no way it's DNS it was DNS
  • @patio11 Patrick McKenzie on x
Might be a good day to inventory “What here goes down if AWS/Cloudflare/etc are down.” Assuming you're at a scale where “Meh that will never be more than basis points of our downtime so not worth worrying about” no longer applies.

Cloudflare but it doesn't take down the internet every couple of months. Who's building this?
  • @stacey_hauff Stacey Hauff on x
I don't know what Cloudflare is, I don't know what a server is, I don't really even know what the internet is. All I know is the information I need is on a website saying “oopsie! error!” and that is bad.

500 INTERNAL SERVER ERROR on cloudflare's network is the tech equivalent of “the captain has turned on the fasten seatbelt sign” but the plane is already in a death spiral

After rejecting its past, X's solution to the awful Cloudflare outage is to run back to its ex (Twitter Inc. infrastructure). Twitter's tech legacy saves the day. Long live the ghost of the bird! [image]

is it just me or has Cloudflare seemingly been touching itself more often this year than in the past 10 years combined

    > google > “is cloudflare down” > click to the website > can't reach it because they use cloudflare

When the downdetector is down, because it uses what is down (Cloudflare) [image]

There is a current issue with Cloudflare, which impacts our site and numerous others. We are awaiting updates from them about their ongoing outage. Back soon! 🧡 💚 💙 [image]

cloudflare was down for a few minutes and half the internet stopped working, insane scale.

Part of Amazon AWS went down back in October and a lot of things broke. Now something is up with Cloudflare... Now is a good time to remember that a lot of eggs are in a handful baskets. Time again to have those big conversations about what resiliency looks like.

yeah everything that trusted Cloudflare is fucked  —  “There is an internal server error on Cloudflare's network.”  —  Cloudflare wanted a chokehold on the internet, and this is what that looks like  —  status: www.cloudflarestatus.com/incidents/ 8g...  [embedded post]

I'm not mad. I pay CF a few hundred bucks a month because they are the best at what they do. And if there's some issue it's some very niche thing that I don't understand. And they will fix it. That's why I pay a few hundred bucks a month.

Cloudflare taking notes from CrowdStrike and AWS: just trigger an incident and boom...instant ‘look how mission-critical we are’ campaign.

been doing this for too long b/c the first thing i thought of was the 2012 twitter outage from a cascading bug that spawned its own parody account — remember parody accounts?? — and became a whole news cycle 13 years ago that account would have gotten a book deal [image]

I should have started a @Polymarket for “config change” hugops to cloudflare team. this incident shows how big their customer base is [image]
  • @muvaffakonus @muvaffakonus on x
One operational lesson I got out of this incident is this Never ever have your DNS and the load balancer run by the same vendor. Spinning up the backup load balancer took 15m but worthless when you can't change the DNS
