Canva launches a foundational design model that generates editable layered designs, expands Canva AI, makes Affinity free for all users, and more

Here's what all this means for creators Jess Weatherbed / The Verge : Affinity's new design platform combines everything into one app Ronil Thakkar / KnowTechie : Canva wants to be your all-in-one creative AI design tool Andrew Cunningham / Ars Technica : Affinity's image-editing apps go “freemium” in first major post-Canva update Vyom Ramani / Digit : Canva's AI design brain explained: How it works, secret tips for beginners Alex Blake / TechRadar : Affinity says its new Adobe-rivaling creative app is ‘free forever’ - here's how that really works Bukola Oyeyemi / TechCity : Canva Relaunches Affinity as a Free All-in-One Creative App for Designers Ankush Das / Analytics India Magazine : Canva Rolls Out AI-Powered Creative OS, Makes Affinity Free for All Moneycontrol : Canva introduces its own design model, new AI tools and free Affinity integration Jess Jones / The Times : Canva's Serif takes on Adobe by making design software free Jess Weatherbed / The Verge : Canva's new ‘Creative Operating System’ is actually a marketing workspace Mark Wilson / Fast Company : Canva introduces an AI fix-it button Craig Grannell / Stuff : Affinity just made pro editing and design free forever, and I think Adobe should be worried Eloise Keating / SmartCompany : From emails and forms, to design-led AI: Canva's 10 new features, explained Corbin Davenport / How-To Geek : Affinity Is Now a Free Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator Alternative Webb Wright / ZDNET : Canva's new ‘Creative Operating System’ wants to be your one-stop-shop for AI design Marcus Mendes / 9to5Mac : Affinity is now an all-in-one free app with native Canva integration X: &DAGGER Lucia Scarlet / @luciascarlet : I don't mind the Canva AI stuff being a subscription because it's a cloud service and requires them to perform inference but I really hope they don't end up moving more features that require cloud access to the subscription which some fear merging all of these apps was a great @affinity : The all new Affinity is here! Design, edit photos and layout your work, all in one app — for free 💥 Download Affinity now on macOS or Windows: https://affin.link/72s4 [video] Dylan / @dylanmcd8 : A couple thoughts: - Free for everyone forever sounds great, but does not sound sustainable.  We'll see.  - On that point, you are required to sign in with a Canva account to use the app at all.  In other words, there is no guarantee of “free forever” in any way.  - The intro screens talk about permissions for using your content for AI training.  Some are on by default!  (Canva has some truly awful privacy issues, check your settings) - Basic machine learning (not AI) features like res upscaling are locked behind a Canva Pro account.  Yikes.  - Why is the app 3.5 GB?  Pixelmator Pro by comparison is 858 MB, and that's also an all-in-one type app. Leandro / @invesquotes : It's funny because I think the competitive environment has evolved in Adobe's favor quite significantly over the past few months/years regarding Canva Canva had a tool that aimed to capture the low-end of the market and the strategy was to go up-market from there. Adobe had @canva : Introducing the new free Affinity: a fully reimagined professional design app combining photo, vector, and layout tools in one fast, responsive platform. It's powerful. It's pro. And it's now completely free for everyone. Read more: https://www.canva.com/... @theo : Every thumbnail on my channel was made with Affinity Photo. I bought it for $30 in 2012 and have used it every day since. The whole suite is now free to use. Incredible. @aldnmarki : Adobe's main competitor just went entirely free, forever, for everyone. Here's to hoping this will shake up the creative industry for the better. Adobe's monopoly must be challenged and crushed. @affinity : It's finally time to announce what we've been working on. Welcome to the all new Affinity. Download now from https://affin.link/28b5 - welcome to the start of creative freedom for all, totally free. Forever. [video] Bluesky: Paul Armstrong / @paularmstrongtbd : Is it me or did they swallow Squarespace? [embedded post] @voxparlour : Ok, this is very good BUT it does integrate gen AI which is very bad www.theverge.com/news/810251/ ...
