OpenAI's Sora 2 generates copyright infringing content, including numerous AI-generated clips featuring SpongeBob, Pokémon, Mario, Rick and Morty, and Star Wars
Within moments of opening OpenAI's new AI slop app Sora, I am watching Pikachu steal Poké Balls from a CVS.

- I'm frustrated with Meta. My assumption is that Meta launched Vibes because they knew OpenAI was about to release the Sora app, so they rushed to partner with Midjourney, etc. and pushed out what they thought would look similar, to beat OpenAI to the punch. But in doing so, they missed the most important piece. Yes, Meta's AI models are behind, but the real miss was the SOCIAL LAYER: people might enjoy AI slop if they can laugh about it, remix it, and experience it together with friends!! @mwi.invest
- If Meta and @zuck are not having an emergency meeting today, they should be! Please to god, do not wait so long to act, and allow this to be a TikTok 2.0. Partner with Google and Veo 4 if you have to, yes Veo 4! @szed_ar
- It turns out that people may not mind AI slop as long as they can be part of it with their friends. That Meta, the most successful social media company in history, apparently did not understand this, while OpenAI did, is striking. — https://sources.news/... @alexheath · Alex Heath

Every clip I've seen of Sora 2 has lead me to these exact conclusions. 1) Sora 2 is an incredible waste of everything in every way imaginable. Just pure garbage. 2) This thing is such a blatant copyright infringement on...everything...that it surely can't be ignored. Right?

I'm learning that OpenAI is essentially advertising the ability to create kind of realistic looking deepfakes of people getting arrested www.garbageday.email/p/a-slightly...

AI-based feeds are scary. I won't deny that I felt some concern when I first learned we were releasing Sora 2. That said, I think the team did the absolute best job they possible could in designing a positive experience. Compared to other platforms, I find myself scrolling way

I share a similar mix of worry and excitement. Sora 2 is technically amazing but it's premature to congratulate ourselves on avoiding the pitfalls of other social media apps and deepfakes. I'm happy with a number of aspects: visible watermarking when exporting, real humans

Sora 2 is out! I'm incredibly impressed that despite Sora 1 setting a ridiculous bar — as the largest jump in video capability basically ever — Sora 2 somehow matches up here. For people that played around a lot with Sora 1, it didn't feel clear that Sora really ‘understood’

There are many legit reasons to be concerned about video generation tech IMO. But conflating video generation as a whole with slop is a mistake, just as it was with text generation. “Not all generated videos” but unironically, and the distinction is important.

Started using the Sora app and it's like TikTok for AI generated videos. — I used to think it would take a year or two for AI videos to become as popular as influencer content on social media but I can see this app causing that to happen by the end of the year.
