Alphabet reports Q2 revenue up 14% YoY to $96.43B, vs. $94B est., net income up 19% to $28.2B, operating income up 14% to $31.27B, and Services revenue up 12%
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. - July 23, 2025 - Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG, GOOGL) today announced financial results for the quarter ended June 30, 2025.
Alphabet
Context & Ripple Effects
Alphabet's Q2 growth rate matched the prior year's 14% revenue increase, when Search revenue was explicitly identified as a major contributor in the previous Q2 report. The company had also entered this quarter after a 12% revenue gain and sharply higher profit in its Q1 results, making the latest release a confirmation of continued expansion rather than an isolated rebound.
First-order effects
- Alphabet exceeded the cited revenue estimate while increasing revenue, operating income, and net income, strengthening the immediate financial backdrop for GOOGL.
- Google Services grew 12%, remaining a substantial source of the quarter's reported growth and earnings.
Second-order effects
- The result raises the benchmark for subsequent Alphabet reports: investors will look for Services growth to continue translating into operating-income growth rather than merely higher revenue.
- Competitors reliant on digital services will face a clearer comparison point as Alphabet demonstrates simultaneous top-line and profit growth.
Third-order effects
- If this pattern persists, Alphabet's scale in consumer-facing services could reinforce a market structure in which large platforms can fund investment from an already profitable core.
- The key long-term question is whether profit growth can remain aligned with revenue growth as Alphabet's mix and investment needs evolve; this release alone does not resolve that.
The trend: Alphabet's results are one data point in the continued ability of scaled digital-service platforms to pair steady revenue growth with expanding absolute profits.

GOOG call is wrapped up. Message from management: Search is rock solid, and AI is working with new revenue opportunities down the road. My take: I've been negative on GOOG over the past six months because of the long-term AI shift. That risk is still on the table, but Search w…

GOOG: Stock is up 3% in after-hours and likely going higher. ➡️ This was the quarter we should have seen a fractional crack in Search. ➡️ The reason is over the past three months, daily active ChatGPT users jumped from around 350M to around 500M. ➡️ With that engagement headwi…

Google processes 980tr tokens per month. At the price per token GPT-3 charged at launch, this would cost ~$70bn/month, or over 2x Google's monthly revenue, for much lower-quality outputs. LLM deflation is happening fast!
