Missouri AG Andrew Bailey is investigating Google, Microsoft, OpenAI, and Meta, claiming the companies' AI chatbots show biased results against President Trump
Missouri's AG is barely even trying to pretend this isn't censorship. … Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey is threatening Google …
The immediate issue is not chatbot safety or consumer harm but alleged political bias in generated answers. That makes the inquiry a test of whether state enforcement can treat model outputs as a politically accountable product behavior.
First-order effects
Google, Microsoft, OpenAI, and Meta face information demands and potential legal exposure over how their chatbots respond to politically charged prompts.
The companies may need to preserve outputs, testing records, and policy materials that explain how their systems handle questions involving Trump and political claims.
Second-order effects
Providers could tighten documentation and consistency testing for high-profile political queries, increasing the compliance burden around model behavior rather than just content moderation.
If more states adopt this theory, general-purpose chatbot providers may face a fragmented set of demands over perceived viewpoint bias, with pressure to make model behavior more auditable.
The broader regulatory contest is shifting from who may deploy AI to how conversational systems are governed when their answers affect public discourse.
The trend: This is one data point in the rise of state-mediated AI oversight that treats chatbot outputs as an enforcement target in their own right.

Every day there's further evidence that the role of chatbots is to authoritatively present the party line as truth.

It's even stupider. The Microsoft letter claims that Copilot ranked Trump last and some nameless AI chatbot “refused to answer the question” but if you look up the actual “study” (which the letter has a typo in the URL) you'll see that Copilot was the one that refused to answer.

I will not let emerging technologies like AI be weaponized to censor President Trump and mislead Missourians.
