Meta would have been better off acqui-hiring an existing team rather than hiring individual contributors to build a new AI team.  A cohesive group that works well together outperform a collection of highly talented individuals.  —  www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

Meta has pivoted entirely to AI which is weird because the company is still called “Meta”, the name of their previous failed pivot. www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

Meta commercial shows their AI bot instructing a father in how his own child likes their pancakes.  This is satanic.

Hearing how Meta is lobbying hard in support of the AI regulation moratorium because it is written broadly enough to preempt not only AI laws, but kids online safety legislation as well.  Which tracks as as the Zuckerbergs also announce they are defunding & closing the school the…

So is the new Meta AI effort also going to be completely open weights? On one hand FAIR was committed, on the other a lot of investment to compete in a space with no clear path to value capture or complimentary assets (and where you are behind the European and Chinese efforts).

The OpenAI braindrain (poachings) by other labs kind of confirms that the smartest minds in AI **don't actually believe** OAI is on the cusp of AGI, but rather that it's going to be a drawn-out slugfest for several years at least, and the economy still matters

The more attention that is placed on individual contributors, the less likely this (whatever you call it) is going to pan out. They clearly want to convince as many people as possible that Zuckerberg is assembling the Dream Team. Also, I'm not exactly sure why anyone would

Remember, if you're applying for an AI position at Meta, no one can ever prove that you were not a regional manager at Toys “R” Us, RadioShack, Circuit City, or Sears.

@kyliebytes Zuck's approach contrasts so much with Apple. Apple has more cash than Meta, and could even buy one of the top 3 AI Labs, or get even a larger team onboard. Apple unfortunately seems not to care, money is abundant for now... Meta sees the threat, and has decided to le…

In recent weeks Meta has spent a ton of money, reorganized their AI, sidelined LeCun, and hired a bunch of talent. Zuckerberg claims they are uniquely positioned to lead the journey to superintelligence. Will they be perceived as the clear leaders in AI three years?

The problem with calling your new AI organization “Meta Superintelligence Labs” is that it sets you up to disappoint.

@GaryMarcus LeCun has been a colossal PR embarrassment for Meta, given his bizarre dismissal of all concerns about the risks and downsides of AI.
  • @garymarcus Gary Marcus on x
@primalpoly not sure Zuck cares about the downsides, but yet YLC has become a bit of a joke, precisely because of his dismissiveness.

Meta seems about 12 months behind SOTA at the moment The longer they delay the next model drop the worse it will get Even a multi-billion reorg may not save them Grok and Gemini caught up earlier this year - partly due to DeepSeek's open source push and partly because they

What if $META's Zuck gets 50 best AI talents, pays them $5B yearly, and then does massive headcount reductions over the years as AI agents take over. Even before genAI, Elon at Twitter fired 80% of the workforce. It turns out that X (Twitter) works fine with 80% fewer employees. …

In the last month, Meta went from being a laughingstock in AI to being a real contender (in my head at least) Cost them maybe 2% of the company. Stock is up 10% (market up 5%) Feels worth it for an asymmetric bet Never count Zuck out!

  • @signulll @signulll on x
so why the hell would idealistic leading researchers join meta of all places besides pure cash? i think zuck's pitch likely includes: - data, more human behavioral data than any other entity. it's the closest proxy to “training on humanity” without breaking laws. -
