I'm sure we will hear a lot about Bill Atkinson (RIP) over the next few days, but I want to point out the huge influence of #HyperCard on the Web. @timbl himself mentioned it in his original WWW proposal ( https://cybercultural.com/... early web browsers like ViolaWWW were modele…

Sad to hear this news.  Bill did some pivotal UI design work and was obviously skilled in 68K assembly, some of which I've studied.  He then just moved on to other pursuits.  I hope they brought him joy.  RIP  —  https://daringfireball.net/...

Back 2014, as I was conceiving @onuniverse, I reached out cold to Bill Atkinson for advice. He invited me to his house in Portola Valley, told me about the origin story of HyperCard, and about the journey of creating the original Mac. I'll never forget that lunch. RIP. [image]

RIP to Bill Atkinson, one of the greatest programmers who ever lived. At Apple he created MacPaint, QuickDraw, HyperCard and was a critical part of making the Macintosh magic. He co-founded General Magic - go watch that documentary. [image]

My favorite story about Bill Atkinson is when he developed an integer-only algorithm to draw circles (first Mac had no FP unit), Steve Jobs immediately responded “cool, now do rounded rectangles”. And made Bill walk around Cupertino, pointing at street signs until he agreed. [ima…

I never met Bill Atkinson but I am not sure I can imagine what my life would be like without him. He created so much at Apple that most of us take for granted. Search for him on folklore DOT org to be inspired, but start with this loving @gruber tribute. https://daringfireball.ne…
