Google rolls out AI Mode to all Google Search users in the US, and announces Deep Search, agentic capabilities, chart generation, and more coming to Labs users

and confusing Barry Schwartz / Search Engine Land : Google launches AI Mode to all U.S. searchers with new features Chance Townsend / Mashable : Google AI Mode is launching in the U.S., kicking off a new era of AI search Cherlynn Low / Engadget : Google's AI Mode lets you virtually try clothes on by uploading a single photo Reece Rogers / Wired : With AI Mode, Google Search Is About to Get Even Chattier Maxwell Zeff / TechCrunch : Google says Project Astra will power new Google Search experiences, including a new Search Live feature, as well as in the Gemini app and third-party products Dominic Preston / The Verge : Google debuts Search Live, which lets users tap a “Live” icon in AI Mode or Lens and then converse with Search about what's in their camera's field of view Emma Roth / The Verge : Google will soon let Search users shop in AI Mode, teases an agentic checkout, and tests letting Search Labs users virtually try clothes on themselves in the US Abner Li / 9to5Google : Google launches Google AI Ultra, a subscription plan with the highest usage limits and access to its most capable models, rolling out in the US for $250/month Threads: Craig Campbell / @that.map.guy.craig : Google just slaughtering startups today and turning them into features one-by-one I know the market wasn't happy with what they presented, but I was personally pretty impressed.  And I think the market is mispricing and misunderstanding just how dominant some of their models now are across the spectrum Combine that with the user data they have amassed over 25 years and it's game over Jane Manchun Wong / @wongmjane : This Google I/O is such a bloodbath for startups Whatever you built, gets sherlocked into a Google feature in the next quarter and backed by multitude of computation powers, engineering resources, data, and basically unlimited budget All you need to do is outlasting them X: Nathan Lambert / @natolambert : Google's models today are absolutely crushing it today at IO. I'm still not optimistic that competing with ChatGPT is the right play, but I'm happy to see them try. Google cloud to the moon either way. Steven Sinofsky / @stevesi : Google is rolling out AI Mode to everyone in the US https://www.engadget.com/... // My view is that AI search is going to drive more clicks not less. I'm finding I click on nearly every link in generated search results, both to validate and learn more. Logan Kilpatrick / @officiallogank : AI mode in Google Search is starting to roll out to all users in the US today : ) It's the search experience you know, reimagined for the AI era (including a new feature called “Deep Search")! [video] Ben Bajarin / @benbajarin : For a lot of us power adopters of technology, if Apple can't pull off some of these features Google is showing with Gemini, no amount of blue bubble lock-in will stop us from moving to Android—especially when those features come to smart glasses. M.G. Siegler / @mgsiegler : Very impressive Google I/O, IMO. It feels like it will end up as Bizarro WWDC as it was basically all the things that I assume Apple won't or can't talk about. Hard to see how they answer, other than they obviously can't and so have to go in completely different directions... @modestproposal1 : my hot take is google should make their models free to consumers and put them in a place where users will use them. is Gemini 2.5 Pro Deep Experimental Possibly Able to Use Today But Probably Not better than o3, great make it free. Will they lose money? Yes. Does it matter? No. Gene Munster / @munster_gene : The demo of AI Mode for shopping for clothes is a great example of where Google can shine.  My take: The inspiration aspect is something chatbots typically lack.  Instead of asking users what they want (which usually yields one answer), Google is essentially telling them, 'You're going to love AI Mode.' They have the brand power to distribute the product and train billions of users. Julia Alexander / @loudmouthjulia : “the web is growing” just not for any of the sites that are tracking 30% declines in visits or for the 60% of people who don't click on a link. the web may be growing with, you know, shit — but good websites with good information, the beating heart of the internet, are dying. [image] Logan Kilpatrick / @officiallogank : Google's progress in AI since last year: - The worlds strongest models, on pareto frontier - Gemini app: has over 400M monthly active users - We now process 480T tokens a month, up 50x YoY - Over 7M developers have built with the Gemini API (4x) Much more to come still!
