Solana deletes a social media video ad promoting its NYC conference in May 2025 after the crypto community criticized it for insensitivity towards gender issues

- Solana posted a video ad on social media on Monday to promote its upcoming conference, but it was removed hours later.

The Block Timmy Shen

Context & Ripple Effects

Solana has previously had to manage credibility pressures around technology and ecosystem governance, from recurring network-instability complaints to efforts by its founders to distance the project from FTX-related exposure. The withdrawn promotion adds a communications and community-trust dimension to that record.

The NYC event later drew attention for stablecoin discussion rather than the lavish presentation associated with earlier crypto gatherings, according to coverage of Solana Accelerate. That makes the short-lived ad notable chiefly as a test of whether Solana’s public messaging supports the conference’s intended ecosystem narrative.

First-order effects

  • Solana loses the immediate reach and creative investment behind the removed campaign, while its conference communications team must replace or recalibrate promotion under public scrutiny.
  • The criticism gives community members a visible example that social-media backlash can force a rapid response from a major blockchain brand.

Second-order effects

  • Event partners, speakers and ecosystem projects have an incentive to apply tighter review to co-branded creative, since promotional missteps can redirect attention from product and developer messaging.
  • Competing chains can contrast their own community posture with Solana’s response, raising the reputational value of inclusive messaging in developer and user outreach.

Third-order effects

  • If such reversals become routine, crypto networks’ reputations will increasingly be shaped not only by token performance and technical reliability but by their ability to maintain legitimacy with distributed communities.
  • The episode points toward more formal brand-governance practices at ecosystem organizations, though a single deleted ad does not establish that such processes will follow.

The trend: Crypto networks are being pushed to treat community-facing communications as a governance and trust issue, alongside technology and market execution.

This video is horrendous and I hope Solana takes it down If you want to celebrate America why not keep the message positive instead of dunking on people and making light of serious cultural issues Let's keep the message on how Solana can help people rather than this garbage

Holy fucking cringe Batman. Imagine thinking this is a good commercial. The “mind virus” that's infected the nation is whatever weird circlejerk is going on in Silicon Valley where people are convinced they were oppressed and that this is cool or edgy. What a bunch of losers.

Took them 9 hours to delete it. Also all the major players in the Solana ecosystem suddenly delete their tweets promoting/supporting the ad and RT'd and liked takes about it being bad. They approved this, supported it and celebrated it. They rolled it back because it hurt [video]

Issue with the solana ad is that trans / nonbinary devs are actually super cracked and def not holding back innovation
