Inside Solana Accelerate conference in NYC, which was full of buzz about stablecoins and lacked the over-the-top glitz and pomp of earlier crypto conferences

Context & Ripple Effects

Solana Accelerate’s subdued presentation extends a shift visible at Bitcoin 2023, where the mood was subdued and moonshot talk was absent. The emphasis on stablecoins makes the conference notable as a signal of what attendees were prioritizing over spectacle.

The arc also aligns with the later corporate sheen at Consensus, where Wall Street’s embrace of digital assets shaped the event’s tone. Together, the coverage suggests crypto gatherings are increasingly judged by their practical market focus rather than their showmanship.

First-order effects

  • Conference attendees and participating companies receive a clear signal that stablecoins, rather than promotional spectacle, are the central topic competing for attention at Solana Accelerate.
  • Solana’s event brand is immediately differentiated from earlier crypto-conference culture by its more restrained format and business-oriented conversation.

Second-order effects

  • Projects, service providers, and investors seeking visibility around Solana face pressure to connect their pitches to stablecoin use cases rather than broad market hype.
  • Other crypto conference organizers may place greater weight on institutional or payments-oriented programming as the contrast with earlier glitz becomes more salient.

Third-order effects

  • If this programming shift persists across major events, crypto’s public-facing industry culture could move from token-centric promotion toward infrastructure and payment narratives.
  • That transition may narrow the crypto legitimacy gap, but the conference coverage alone cannot establish whether the change reflects durable adoption or a temporary cycle in attention.

The trend: Crypto conferences are becoming venues for stablecoin and institutional-market positioning rather than the spectacle-driven culture associated with earlier cycles.

This seems really encouraging for where crypto is going. I think memecoins get most of the attention still (or a lot of it, anyway) but the concentrating of the minds on stablecoins indicates a seriousness to really become a payments layer.

If people are wondering why there is so much bipartisan support in the Senate and the House (despite Warren ranting about an anti-crypto army) it's because many many many of your favorite leaders in Congress have done what Katie has done here: taken the time to get off of X and

As soon as I saw that weird anti-woke ad for the Solana conference, I immediately signed up to go. But it turns out it wasn't full of people grumbling about culture war issues. They were just talking about stablecoins https://www.businessinsider.com/ ...
