The Trump administration fires all advisory committee members within the DHS, including those in the CISA's CSRB, which was investigating Salt Typhoon hackers
In a letter sent today, the acting DHS secretary terminated membership to all advisory boards, including the Cyber Safety Review Board …
The CSRB loses the members conducting its Salt Typhoon review, pausing or disrupting an independent mechanism for assessing a major cyber incident.
DHS and CISA must decide whether and how to reconstitute the board before it can resume work, while affected organizations lose a near-term source of public incident findings.
Second-order effects
A delayed or interrupted review can defer lessons and recommendations that agencies, telecoms, and other defenders might use to improve responses to similar intrusions.
The dismissals add to pressure on CISA's remaining staff and leadership capacity as job cuts and a prolonged leadership gap complicate the agency's core cyber mission.
Third-order effects
If advisory-board resets and capacity reductions persist together, federal cyber incident review could become less continuous and less able to convert major breaches into durable cross-sector guidance.
That would shift more responsibility for post-incident learning toward individual agencies and private-sector defenders, with less centralized independent review.
The trend: This is one data point in a broader shift in which changes to federal cybersecurity staffing and oversight reshape the government's capacity to investigate and learn from major incidents.
DHS has terminated the memberships of everyone on its advisory committees. — This includes several cyber committees, like CISA's advisory panel and the Cyber Safety Review Board, which was investigating Salt Typhoon. — That review is “dead,” person familiar says. — www.docu…

The CSRB was “less than halfway” done with its Salt Typhoon investigation, according to a now-former member. — “I'm hoping this is a pause, not the end,” this person said. “There are still professional staff for the CSRB and I hope they will continue some of the work in the in…

Members of the Cyber Safety Review Board were informed they have been dismissed pursuant to a DHS order disbanding all advisory committees. The board had been in the middle of probing the Chinese hack of U.S. telecoms, a review that now is in limbo and possibly terminated.
