The last pitiful vestiges of net neutrality have now been put out of their misery.  It was a nice dream while it lasted.  —  US appeals court blocks Biden administration effort to restore net-neutrality rules |  Reuters

I don't think people understand how devastating the end of net neutrality, and consumer protections around internet connectivity, are going to be.  Imagine the situation where you pay for 4 or 5 different streaming services, each with different “exclusives” — but for the Internet…

A federal appeals court ruled the FCC lacks authority to reinstate net neutrality, citing a Supreme Court decision overturning a 1984 precedent that let agencies interpret laws.  —  Similar challenges are targeting rules made by the SEC, NLRB, USDA, FTC, and others, many of which…

With Loper Bright overturning Chevron, we are gonna see this over and over again: legislating from the bench; judges' “expertise” over actual experts.  —  Ironic how this was a big GOP's grievance for years, the made-up ‘activist judge,’ when it was them all along.  —  www.nytime…

More cost increases to come for consumers as SCOTUS ruling limiting agency power results in invalidating Biden FCC net neutrality regs.  Now ISPs like Comcast can slow the speed of competitors like YouTube making them less attractive as a cable alternative. www.nytimes.com/2025/0…

I know this is hardly the most important takeaway here, but if you weren't already thinking about the value of physical media in your life, consider that you're about to start seeing open price gauging for half-decent streaming and download speeds.

A consequence of the Loper Bright case/overruling of Chevron.  —  Net neutrality regulations were “aimed at preventing internet service providers like Verizon or Comcast from blocking or degrading the delivery of services from competitors like Netflix and YouTube.”  —  www.nytime…

this trumplican ruling killing net neutrality doesn't just kill net neutrality, it delivers the final killing blow to any sort of coherent federal consumer broadband protection (corporate press outlets will skip over that last bit)

So it begins.  Thanks to our corrupt SCOTUS soon the USDA will have no legal authority to require labeling for groceries, OSHA will have no authority to enforce workplace safety rules, etc. [embedded post]

For a decade, I've argued that so-called “net neutrality” regulations are unlawful (not to mention pointless).  Today, the Sixth Circuit held exactly that.  You can read the court's excellent opinion here: https://opn.ca6.uscourts.gov/ opinions.pdf/25a0002p-06.pdf It's time for r…

NEW An appellate court just struck down President Biden's partisan plan to expand government control of the Internet through Title II “net neutrality” rules, citing Loper Bright. While the work to unwind the Biden Admin's regulatory overreach will continue, this is a good win.

The 6th Circ overturned the FCC's net neutrality rule today, and it shows how Loper Bright (overturning Chevron) opens the door to judicial activism. No more deference to an agency's “permissible” interpretation of the law. Now the judiciary alone settles the score. [image]

On Net Neutrality: When Congress passed the Telecommunications Act in 1934 it clearly wanted the American people to enjoy non-discriminatory, low-cost communications services. Finding otherwise is blatant judicial activism that puts corporate interests over American democracy.

Over the course of 10 years we went from a dialogue between courts and executives about how to properly implement both parties' policies to courts just saying nope sorry can't do that because it's not the policy we (or the justices we must obey) like

Net Neutrality was one of my first “Oh my entire media environment got this decisively completely wrong” moments, was pretty disorienting. Literally every source I was reading was going into so much detail about how ending Net Neutrality was going to end the good internet.

Today is a great day for American consumers and the rule of law.  As I argued in my amicus brief in support of the petitioners, the FCC's resurrection of so-called net neutrality was a regulatory power grab that violated the plain meaning of the Communications Act.  I applaud the…

Net neutrality was SUCH a big deal for a while, was supposed to be “the end of the internet as we know it.” In the end it doesn't seem to have made much of a difference one way or another. A reminder that almost all dire consequences of government actions are overblown [image]

Federal net neutrality is no more. I authored CA's net neutrality law, the strongest in the nation. It survived lawsuits by Trump & industry & is still in place. As right wing extremists make it much harder for the feds to protect the public, CA's role is all the more important […

Big win for @AjitPai and many others — not to mention American consumers. A win that started when Ajit was a dissenting commissioner. An underappreciated moral of the story: Pick your minority Commissioners wisely and with long term wins front of mind.

The Pai Restoring Internet Freedom Order survives the Biden Administration and is going strong! In the more than seven years since it was adopted, broadband speeds have substantially improved, prices have gone down in real terms, and rural broadband deployment has expanded.
