Mark Zuckerberg says Threads now has 100M+ DAUs, revealing its DAU figure for the first time, and 300M+ MAUs, up from 275M+ MAUs in November 2024
It's a notable milestone not just because it's a big number; it's also the first time Meta has a daily active user figure publicly.

Context & Ripple Effects
Threads’ reported monthly audience had climbed from more than 130M monthly users in February to 175M by July and nearly 275M by late October. The latest update extends that progression while adding a daily-use measure that Meta had not previously made public.
That matters because the coverage had framed continued sign-ups and monthly growth as the key indicators of Threads’ momentum. A DAU figure gives a more concrete view of recurring use, not just reach.
First-order effects
Meta can now point to a public daily-engagement baseline for Threads alongside its monthly audience figure, changing how the product’s traction is assessed.
Threads’ reported monthly-user growth continues from the nearly 275M MAUs disclosed in October, while the new daily metric makes engagement a visible operating benchmark.
Second-order effects
The disclosure provides a more useful engagement datapoint for any future Threads advertising plans, which related coverage had suggested Meta could consider in 2025.
Competitors and analysts gain a clearer basis for comparing Threads’ audience scale with the frequency at which users return, rather than relying on monthly totals alone.
Third-order effects
If Meta continues to disclose both daily and monthly activity, social-platform growth narratives may increasingly be judged on repeat usage as well as account acquisition.
The shift from reporting sign-ups and MAUs toward daily engagement is a marker of a product moving from launch-scale validation toward demonstrating a durable audience that can support monetization.
The trend: Social platforms are increasingly expected to prove habitual engagement, not merely rapid monthly-user growth, as they mature toward monetization.
Threads now has 300M monthly actives and 100M daily actives. A big thank you to this rapidly growing community — we're making something special together, and we'll focus on making it even better next year.
apparently there are 100 million daily active users of Threads. I wonder how this is counted, and how many actually engage with Threads content every day. I wonder because Bluesky still feels a lot more alive than Threads, despite having a lot less users
Question: anybody know of any homegrown Threads trends or creators that have really broken through to the mainstream? Like, is a culture brewing here? The numbers are big... what's the impact?
First time I recall seeing a daily active users number for Threads. For comparison, Twitter was at 238m DAU the last time it reported public numbers in mid-2022. Of course, Twitter was 16 years old. Threads is like 16 months old.
Threads now has about as many monthly active users as Twitter/X does. Bluesky, even with its recent surge, still only has about 1/10th of the users as Threads/Twitter.
On one hand you have Threads hitting big numbers and on the other falling downloads for BlueSky. Social media is hard and it's even harder if you're competing with a well oiled machine like Meta. — Infographic source: @eric_seufert — RE: https://www.threads.net/... [image]
