Anthropic raised another $4B from Amazon, will make AWS its primary training partner, and is working with Annapurna Labs to develop new Trainium accelerators

from chips to software. Mady Mills / @madisonmills22 : $AMZN to invest another $4B into Anthropic. Big news in the release: Anthropic is now naming AWS its primary training partner...and will use AWS Trainium and Inferentia chips to train and deploy its future foundation models. Bad for $NVDA? Andy Jassy / @ajassy : Excited about our deepening partnership with @AnthropicAI. About a year ago, AWS became Anthropic's primary cloud partner (which you can also see by the substantial momentum of Anthropic on Amazon Bedrock). Today, we become Anthropic's primary foundation model training partner. [image] James Maguire / @jamesmaguire : the AI boom continues to zigzag ever upwards — Anthropic seems to be one of the more thoughtful players. Tom Brown / @nottombrown : Excited to get to work with AWS and Annapurna Labs on optimizing Trainium from silicon to software. Our team's been having fun going deep into the Neuron stack to get as close as possible to 100% peak theoretical performance. @amazon : 📈 Our expanded investment in @AnthropicAI shows our commitment to responsible AI development and democratizing access to cutting-edge technology. All on @awscloud. 🌟🤖 Hayden Field / @haydenfield : NEW: Amazon on Friday announced it would invest an additional $4 billion in Anthropic, the OpenAI rival, bringing Amazon's total investment to $8 billion. Amazon will retain its position as a minority investor. https://www.cnbc.com/... Enrique Barreto / @techiehank : Man, anthropic is going to help Amazon with their own AI chips. That's insane. Morgan / @morqon : anthropic marrying amazon means they can worry less about the DOJ forcing google to divest [image] Alex Kantrowitz / @kantrowitz : Is Anthropic's Amazon relationship cleaner than Microsoft's w/ OpenAI? Amazon just put another $4 billion into the company: https://www.anthropic.com/... Matt Day / @mattmday : Some predawn Seattle to San Francisco tech news. This state of affairs will likely last ~20 minutes until Google decides to 1-up Amazon at their favorite rivalry: hitting Anthropic with the money stick.  [embedded post]

Per today's news, a frontier model will likely be trained on Trainium 2 before Mi300/325.

We're expanding our collaboration with AWS. This includes a new $4 billion investment from Amazon and establishes AWS as our primary cloud and training partner. https://anthropic.com/...

thankful for amazon's continued partnership as we work towards building very safe and very useful AI systems!

In typical SF fashion, Anthropic announces they are poly but that their “primary” is now AWS [image]

AWS doubles investment in @AnthropicAI to $8bn to become ‘primary cloud & training’ provider (was already primary cloud but not exclusive) & working jointly on future Tranium accelerators, which is what it said in Sept 23 when first $4bn was announced. Is this more than new $$?

this is crazy because they also seem to have such a good relationship with google (new google doc integration, good support on gcp, etc)

Scaling AI needs an infra hyperscaler OpenAI has MS (and a bit of Oracle). Anthropic has AWS (and a bit of Google). Google has its own infra. Meta has its own + AWS + a whole open source community. What does Apple have in cloud?

On this episode of DeepTech315, @dougclinton and I discuss $NVDA's earnings, the regulatory challenges facing $GOOG, and $AMZN's increased investment in Anthropic amidst regulatory scrutiny. [video]

Anthropic has committed to using Amazon's in-house Trainium chips for inference and training...

Working closely with AWS, we're developing future generations of Trainium chips. Designing both hardware and software together lets us optimize every aspect of frontier model training.
