After years of demanding cultural payments from Internet platforms, the government is now kicking TikTok the company out of the country, but leaving the app in place? How does that benefit creators or better protect Canadians' privacy and security? https://x.com/...

@prairiecentrist It stops them from deploying capital within Canada directly. Corporations come with some level of “rights” within Canada including stuff like data and privacy. This likely now positions tiktok to be more exposed to c-70.

@prairiecentrist They also now lose all the “benefits” of incorporating here including taxation. They were testing out their “creator” program that is huge in the US that behaves a lot like Twitter Blue, both are an avenue to effectively launder money to content the Co “boosts”. …

First C11, then C18, now the Government is banning Tiktok from properly supporting it's Creators in Canada. If there are security concerns with the app fix it, ban it ...ban all apps with security issues. All this does is remove the people that help. https://www.michaelgeist.ca/ …

    Idk what this means.

So zero security concerns are resolved but we lose the ability to tax and regulate it. The Liberals really are the masters of finding the dumbest possible middle ground on an issue
