Ubisoft execs asked by an analyst if they were worried that Sony's Ghost of Yotei (2025) will detract from player interest in the now-delayed AC Shadows. CEO Yves Guillemot says: “There's a lot of space for very high-quality games, and those two games can sell very well.”

Ubisoft has delayed Assassin's Creed Shadows to February 2025 for some polishing work. The good news is that Shadows will also now debut on Steam on Valentine's Day. Full details below 👇 https://www.theverge.com/...

Assassin's Creed Shadows delay creates a strong opportunity for Ubisoft to have another run at Star Wars Outlaws. Reviews were solid, it's got potential mass appeal, and a relatively slight Q4 release slate could make it a popular choice over the Black Friday sales window

Also: “We are departing from the traditional Season Pass model. All players will be able to enjoy the game at the same time on February 14 and those who preorder the game will be granted the first expansion for free.”

I don't think this is going to be a true hit. It just doesn't feel like a meaningful change for the extremely old franchise, despite the new location. Tsushima (OG) stole the glory they could have gotten years earlier for this setting

Uh, the Ubisoft board is launching an investigation? That seems not great... “In the light of recent challenges, we acknowledge the need for greater efficiency while delighting players. As a result, beyond the first important short-term actions undertaken, the Executive

Ubisoft says AC Shadows is releasing on Steam. That “mostly negative” rating feels like an inevitability with how divisive the game is. They also said they're cancelling/refunding all pre-orders due to the delay (they must be low) and all future ones get first expansion free.

One thing has become clear today and that is Ubisoft is truly freaking out & concerned that Assassin's Creed Shadows won't be a hit. Moving out of the attractive holiday season for a February release really does say a lot. Outlaws underperforming must've really scared them.

From CEO re: “polarized comments around Ubisoft”: “I want to reaffirm that we are an entertainment-first company, creating games for the broadest possible audience, and our goal is not to push any specific agenda. We remain committed to creating games...that everyone can enjoy”

Ubisoft announcing a 3 month delay to Assassin's Creed Shadows AND putting it on Steam day one PLUS releasing Star Wars Outlaws on Steam is definitely signs of huge changes happening internally that have been long overdue I love Ubisoft, I love their franchises they are all tied …
  • @grummz @grummz on x
Star Wars Outlaws sales softer than expected. Earning estimates reduced 30% as Ubisoft launches an internal investigation to address efficiency and player centric approach. This sounds like running defense to me with no meaningful changes. An internal investigation is to placate

We have no agenda. We want the widest possible audience. This Ubisoft statement sounds good until you realize Disney said the same thing in response to their movies being accused of a woke agenda. What happened? Nothing. Disney carried on until they had several more mega flops. […

This is HUGE. Ubisoft's Board is launching an internal investigation. Their goal is to ‘not push any specific agenda’. It seems like Ubisoft got the message. We, gamers, are customers, not consumers. [image]

Ubisoft CANNOT repeat giving reviewers a big game to review for only one week. So many Star Wars Outlaws reviews were frustrated that certain actions felt like a waste of time, and i can see feeling that when you feel rushed. this could've reviewed better if we had more time!
  • @paultassi Paul Tassi on x
It is embarrassing Ubisoft is admitting they're actually rattled by the culture war stuff over Outlaws and Shadows
  • @patrickklepek Patrick Klepek on x
Assassin's Creed being “complete” but getting delayed out of the holidays for polish, moving to day one on Steam, abandoning season passes—this is *all hands on deck* for this game to be a hit. That sounds pretty worrying for Ubisoft's overall health.

Assassin's Creed Shadows has been delayed to February 14 to provide ‘additional polish’ to the game, and will now launch on Steam day one Ubisoft is also ‘departing from the traditional Season Pass model’, pre-orders will get first expansion for free. ➡️ https://staticctf.ubisoft…
  • @stephentotilo Stephen Totilo on x
“While the game is feature complete, the learnings from the Star Wars Outlaws release led us to provide additional time to further polish the title.” - Game will launch on Steam on day 1 - pre-orders will get first expansion for free
