Context & Ripple Effects
ChatGPT’s expansion has moved from handling user-uploaded files through Code Interpreter’s data-analysis tools to analyzing documents and PDFs within an “All Tools” interface. Direct imports from Google Drive and OneDrive reduce the step of downloading files before bringing them into ChatGPT.
The rollout also follows ChatGPT web browsing for paid tiers, extending the assistant’s access beyond its original model knowledge into user-provided workplace material and live web information.
First-order effects
Plus, Team, and Enterprise users can bring files from Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive into ChatGPT without a separate local upload step.
OpenAI makes ChatGPT more immediately useful for document- and data-based tasks that previously depended on manual file handling.
Second-order effects
The feature raises the value of paid ChatGPT access for teams whose files already reside in Google Drive or OneDrive, while making those storage services inputs to ChatGPT rather than separate destinations.
Competing AI assistants and workplace-software providers face pressure to match low-friction access to cloud-stored documents, not just offer standalone chat and file-upload features.
Third-order effects
If cloud-file connections become a standard assistant capability, competition will shift toward which AI product becomes the interface through which users retrieve, interpret, and act on work content.
That shift could concentrate workflow value in assistants that unify browsing, file analysis, and external services, while increasing the importance of enterprise controls over what data an assistant can access.
The trend: AI chatbots are evolving from standalone prompts into workflow-native work surfaces connected to the documents and services where users already operate.
We're rolling out interactive tables and charts along with the ability to add files directly from Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive into ChatGPT. Available to ChatGPT Plus, Team, and Enterprise users over the coming weeks. https://openai.com/... [image]
OpenAI is also rolling out connected apps to some ChatGPT Enterprise users. Kind of funny that they put Google Drive above Microsoft OneDrive, considering who they are partners with... #ai #news [image]
@danshipper Oh cool. Now I can hand over all of my Google Drive info to OpenAI so they can use it to train off of. No thanks. When they can actually tell me what data they are using to train the model, I might consider it.
If I'm understanding correctly, this is fancy text-to-pandas / text-to-SQL on top of CSVs, with some tool use to generate charts 📊 That's dope. We'll create some open-source templates so that you as the developer can also create a similar experience. If you want to go the
Wow, this is pretty huge. I recently predicted that within a year you'd be able to connect your files to ChatGPT. And now it's already happening, altho just with Google Drive to start. Every time I try to predict something with AI, it happens even sooner than I think.
@OpenAI Wow “Instead of downloading files to your desktop and then uploading them to ChatGPT, you can now add various file types directly from your Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive. This allows ChatGPT to understand your Google Sheets, Docs, Slides, and Microsoft Excel, Word, a…
people assume that this is taking business away from wrappers. they are wrong. if you built an interactive tables app you should double down on it and build deeper experiences that they can't/won't see: @JuliusAI_
New: Excel and Google Sheets in ChatGPT! 👉 Watch the video and tell me what you think! Here is what you will be able to do: - Upload your files from Google Drive - Upload your files from Microsoft OneDrive Then you can: - Interact with tables - Interact with charts - [video]
Rating this new ChatGPT feature a 12/10. Why? 1) I've been screaming for more spreadsheet-related AI. 90% of the enterprises I speak with ask for AI for spreadsheets. 2) Their reply feature now extends to tables (presumably also cells, rows, multi-column, etc.) 3) It's yummy.
Interactive Charts!!! GPT is coming for @JuliusAI_ Interesting google drive & one drive integration. Seems a little weird, looks like you still need to manually attach the file. Which doesn't seem like a very big upgrade. I was hoping gpt would automatically search & RAG
