I thought Bluesky was dead when Threads launched.  I was wrong.  Although Bluesky still has to close the gap in terms of audience and content discovery, open registration and hashtags will help.  Most impressive IMO: Bsky has developed a competitive edge by open sourcing algorith…

Looks promising.  If everything goes as the developers envisioned, this 'll democratize content moderation & empower users.  But I wonder if Safety has red-teamed some of these “additional moderation services” to see how authoritarian gov might subvert these features to censor/su…

if bluesky found a way to continue using hive dot ai or whatever for gross (i.e. bulk, rough) content-level removal of the most obviously offensive and harmful stuff, that would significantly lower the human-harms cost of community moderation for unpaid mods to not have to peep s…

Also really good moderation means some people are going to get pissed off about it, complain about overly power hungry mods etc.

I think moderation is a process that is inevitably going to involve a lot of drama and problems - much like democracy.  —  And I'd rather have actual human users driving that inherently messy process than dead-eyed billionaire executives or their equally hideous robot-parrot prox…

I don't think I can properly convey how lengthy and vigorous the design process was for labelers & stackable moderation.  Since early 2022 we've been talking about this.  Then the past month of implementation felt like another two years.  —  It's going to take a lot more work but…

Great, but can we also have some basics like being able to construct a multi-post message all at once, before posting (like you can over on Twitter)?

    2. We recognize that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to moderation—no single company can get online safety right for every culture and community in the world.  —  We've also been building an ecosystem that gives communities power to create their own spaces, with their own …

We're investing in safety from two angles.  —  1. We've built our own moderation team dedicated to providing around-the-clock coverage to uphold our community guidelines.
