Microsoft updates Copilot with a redesigned look, a new AI model for Copilot's Balanced mode called Deucalion, and new AI image creation and editing features

https://lnkd.in/... Forums: r/Android : Delivering Copilot for everyone - The Official Microsoft Blog

VentureBeat Carl Franzen

Context & Ripple Effects

This is an early step in Copilot's rapid feature layering: only weeks earlier, Microsoft had expanded the assistant with GPT-4 Turbo, code interpretation, and Deep Search and separately outlined DALL-E 3 and forthcoming coding tools.

The update combines interface changes, a mode-specific model, and visual creation in one product surface. That matters because subsequent coverage shows Copilot continuing toward richer interaction modes, including webpage vision, voice, and more complex reasoning.

First-order effects

  • Copilot users get a revised interface, a new Deucalion-powered option within Balanced mode, and additional tools to generate and edit images.
  • Microsoft broadens the set of tasks handled inside Copilot, while differentiating its own model routing within the product rather than presenting every capability as a single underlying model.

Second-order effects

  • Rival assistants face pressure to pair model upgrades with polished, multimodal product workflows; raw model access alone becomes less of a complete consumer proposition.
  • Image-generation and editing become more tightly bundled with general assistant use, increasing the importance of product UX and controls around synthetic-media outputs.

Third-order effects

  • If this bundling persists, the competitive unit shifts from a standalone chatbot or image tool toward an integrated assistant work surface that selects models and media tools behind a common interface.
  • The longer-term differentiator may be how consistently an assistant connects reasoning, creation, and interaction modes, rather than any one model release; the corpus shows Microsoft continuing in that direction.

The trend: Copilot is part of the broader shift from single-purpose AI features to multimodal assistant interfaces that consolidate creation, reasoning, and task support.

We are continually improving Microsoft Copilot, testing a new version of the base model in a flight. Fun fact: its internal name is “Deucalion” (the son of Prometheus in Greek mythology).
