A look at Apple's unusual approach to building its MR headset, which took seven years to develop and which will still be an experimental product at launch

Apple's soon-to-be-revealed mixed-reality device will likely cost $3,000, requires a separate battery pack and is still experimental

    1. Leak a few things about your ‘upcoming’ product. 2. Wait a few years and watch competitors rush to market with undercooked MVPs to beat you. 3. Introduce a much more polished product and dominate the market. ElOhEl, Apple playbook? ↓ https://twitter.com/...

“For a mass-market audience, virtual reality still lacks a killer app outside of gaming,” says one analyst. But Apple is going to try selling a VR device anyway, with China's Luxshare taking charge of assembly. ⁦@aatilley⁩ ⁦@yoyominnie⁩ https://www.wsj.com/...

I probably should write about this, but for as breathlessly as reporters are writing about Apple's headset, it would behoove everyone to keep accessibility in mind. A computer on your face is a new beast, both ergonomically and in terms of software. Don't obsess over cost, etc.

@steven_aquino I'm thinking a lot about the accessibility part going into this, kind of turning it over in my mind. Curious about your thoughts.

Apple in the coming weeks is expected to unveil what is perhaps the most experimental, unconventional product in its history: a so-called mixed-reality headset that resembles a pair of ski goggles and comes with a battery pack https://www.wsj.com/...

Apple has followed the strategy of shipping a wildly innovative but bleeding-edge and completely unaffordable product followed by a cheaper, more consumer-friendly counterpart before. That would be in 1983/84 with the Lisa and Mac. https://www.wsj.com/...

I should mention, I am fully aware cost is a crucial factor of consumer tech—especially if Apple's headset is as pricey as reports say it is. I'm merely saying, there's a whole non-trivial aspect to the device that no one is considering in their coverage. I am not surprised.

User937840 on Weibo. Apple's VR headset software will be released first, followed by the hardware. This means a reveal at WWDC, potentially with limited info.. and a launch in the Fall. Hopefully this means it gets a 3nm chip. https://gall.dcinside.com/... https://twitter.com/...
