Reports: Twitter laid off “well above 50” staff over the weekend, including Director of Product Management Esther Crawford and Revue founder Martijn de Kuijper

Crawford headed up various projects at Twitter, including the company's Blue with verification subscription as well as Twitter's forthcoming payments platform.

Esther Crawford is out at Twitter in a Saturday night round of layoffs: https://www.theverge.com/...  1. Even the most loyal Twitter employees (she was famous for tweeting a pic of her sleeping in the office a few months ago) seem to be vulnerable now. …
  • @BenHouston3D@mastodon.gamedev.place Ben Houston on mastodon
@Techmeme Do these abrupt and constant firings happen at Elon Musk's other companies?  Wouldn't these constant rounds of layoffs make everyone too anxious about losing their jobs to really dedicate themselves to doing good work?
  • @EboMike@mastodon.social Michael Krehan on mastodon
Esther Crawford, who proudly slept in the Twitter office to meet some arbitrary deadline Elon made up, has apparently been fired.  I hope that some day people will understand that killing yourself for your employer is pointless.
  • @ChrisPirillo@mastodon.social Chris Pirillo on mastodon
@Techmeme ...there are seemingly more characters in a tweet than there are actual Twitter employees at this point.
  • @jpanzer@mastodon.social John Panzer on mastodon
@Techmeme sucking up to a narcissist only gets you so far before things blow up.
  • @Barredo@mastodon.social Alex Barredo on mastodon
@Techmeme should have slept less in the office

Head of Twitter Blue, Esther Crawford, was just fired from Twitter.  This is her first tweet since the news broke.  —  I'm not jeering or mocking her.  —  But her “optimism” was a mistake, and her hard work was pointless. …
  • @mdekuijper Martijn on x
Waking up to find I've been locked out of my email. Looks like I'm let go. Now my Revue journey is really over 🫡
  • @esthercrawford @esthercrawford on x
The worst take you could have from watching me go all-in on Twitter 2.0 is that my optimism or hard work was a mistake. Those who jeer & mock are necessarily on the sidelines and not in the arena. I'm deeply proud of the team for building through so much noise & chaos. 💙

Hearing that the Twitter layoffs last night were well above 50 and hit multiple departments including engineering. If you know more, get in touch.

@esthercrawford Thank you for working so hard to help lay the foundation for Twitter 2.0 Esther. You will be missed.
  • @alexeheath Alex Heath on x
Lots of speculation among ex employees that Musk must be about to install a whole new regime and that's why he is cleaning house. Otherwise the cuts don't make sense. “Hard to keep the lights on with the people who are still left,” one ex manager told me.

Women: do not lean in. Sleeping in the office as a leader sets a horrible precedent for employees to follow and that is an abusive expectation. This is how you become an abuser of employees yourself. https://twitter.com/...

Esther Crawford slept on her office floor to deliver for her company but was still tossed out like dirty bath water. Don't know who needs to hear this, but live for yourself and not any institution. Your job won't ever love you. https://twitter.com/... https://twitter.com/...

Esther Crawford, who has been leading Twitter's product org and posted a photo of herself sleeping on the floor of the office early on in Musk's takeover, was laid off this weekend. Sounds like basically all of the remaining product org was cut as well.

Hearing Twitter has fewer than a dozen employees left working on consumer product and design. A real exercise in tearing a company down to the studs.

This now-laid off Twitter exec enabled a conspiracy-addled, homophobic cry bully as he made this platform a safe space for seditionists, white supremacists, and insurrectionists. The world is worse of because of her greed and her poor character. Don't sell out. https://twitter.co…

You essentially cheered on as working conditions were made worse for everyone around you, implicitly or explicitly saying people who wished for better were not working hard enough. That is why they now jeer, mock, and cheer at you also finding yourself on the receiving end of it.…

Truly thought I had seen the lowest of the low out of Twitter but firing the viral “I sleep in the office” loyalist, one of the most vocal and prominent Elon defenders on here, somehow adds an all-new layer of despicable to the whole thing. https://twitter.com/...

A certain person getting laid off reminds me that our jobs never give us what we give them. And, what matters most is the people who do the work with us, and to sideline them in the name of a job often proves to be a bad choice.

Worth noting that Musk has not introduced a new stock comp structure since he took over. Twitter is still trying to hire back engineers from previous cuts. Everyone is working for less money, and now more cuts are hitting on a weekend without warning.
