At AzureCon, Microsoft moved from hosting containers piecemeal to offering an integrated service: Azure Container Service pairs Mesos-based orchestration with Docker containers, built alongside the partner whose technology underpins it and positioned as Azure's answer to container management on rival clouds. The announcement lands alongside a cluster of AzureCon reveals — India regions, GPU-centric VMs, expanded financial-services support — that together mark Azure's bid for enterprise workloads beyond its traditional base.

What makes this more than a feature drop is the trajectory it sets up: within months the service reached general availability, Docker Datacenter arrived in the Azure Marketplace, and by early 2017 Microsoft had added Kubernetes as an orchestrator option — signaling that ACS was designed as a multi-orchestrator platform, not a bet on Mesos alone.
