The LinuxONE announcement caps a rapid 2015 opening-up of IBM's most closed franchise: five months after shipping the z13 mainframe as a proprietary transaction machine, IBM is now building a Linux-native line with Canonical and handing governance of mainframe openness to a neutral home via the Linux Foundation's new Open Mainframe Project.
