Meta launches Muse for Small Business, integrating the AI agent with Asana, Zoom, Intuit, Box, Canva, Slack, and other apps, alongside its own ad accounts

CNBC Isabel O'Brien

Context & Ripple Effects

Muse moved from a cloud-hosted personal agent to task execution through Gmail and Google Calendar, then expanded across iOS, Android, the web and a dedicated Mac app. The small-business version extends that progression from individual productivity into connected business workflows.

The new integrations put Meta's own ad accounts alongside the operational software small businesses already use, making Muse a potential coordination layer rather than a standalone chat interface.

First-order effects

  • Small-business users can direct Muse across Asana, Zoom, Intuit, Box, Canva, Slack and Meta ad accounts, reducing the handoffs between marketing and back-office tools.
  • Meta gains a business-facing distribution path for Muse in addition to the consumer surfaces it established with its initial US launch.

Second-order effects

  • The connected app vendors gain an agent-mediated entry point to customers' workflows, while competing assistants must match both cross-app actions and access to advertising operations.
  • Meta's ad accounts become part of the same workflow as business operations, increasing the value of campaign management that can draw on work occurring in connected tools.

Third-order effects

  • If businesses adopt assistants as the interface across their software stacks, control shifts toward the platforms that can orchestrate permissions, actions and context across many vendors rather than toward any single application.
  • The launch is a test of whether consumer-scale AI platforms can turn existing reach into a small-business operating layer, challenging specialized workplace software to retain the primary user interface.

The trend: AI assistants are evolving from single-product copilots into cross-application work surfaces that unite operational software with commercial channels.

This is a very surprising move. 1) Zuck buried the lead in his post. CJ is an aggressive hire to build out Meta's Enterprise Platform. 2) MongoDB is a notable $27 billion database business. Dev Ittycheria was CEO for 11 years and stepped down last November. 3) CJ Desai became CEO…

Suggests a few things: 1. The (now ex) CEO might have not seen a path for MongoDB's valuation to grow by much (rendering $17.5M of his equity grant worth very little) 2. Meta offered a LOT MORE that offsets the ~$25M in equity he leaves behind 3. The step to be the head of a divi…
