Apple rolls out iOS 27, watchOS 27, iPadOS 27, visionOS 27, and macOS 27 Golden Gate, all with Siri AI

watchOS 27, iPadOS 27, and visionOS 27 also debut today. … Apple is now rolling out its iOS 27 update to compatible devices today, alongside the watchOS 27, iPadOS 27, and visionOS 27 updates.

The Verge Tom Warren

Context & Ripple Effects

Apple introduced the redesigned operating systems in June, including performance and design changes across iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, and visionOS, then opened the new Siri AI to public beta testers in July. The September 14 release converts that preview into a broadly available feature across Apple’s device platforms.

Apple had set September 14 as the release date days earlier in its announced rollout schedule. The notable shift is not a single-device feature launch but Siri AI becoming part of Apple’s coordinated annual operating-system distribution.

First-order effects

  • Compatible iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and Vision device users can install the new platform releases and access Siri AI as part of the OS update cycle.
  • Apple must manage a multi-platform deployment at once; public posts reporting that some users were first offered iOS 26.7 indicate that update sequencing can shape access to iOS 27.

Second-order effects

  • Siri AI’s availability across Apple’s device families raises the value of keeping devices on the latest supported software, making OS-update delivery and support an operational dependency for Apple.
  • Developers and services that rely on Apple’s system interfaces face a wider installed base for Siri-mediated interactions than during the public-beta period.

Third-order effects

  • If Apple continues shipping its assistant through synchronized OS releases, AI capability becomes a platform-level attribute of the device ecosystem rather than a standalone app feature.
  • The rollout reinforces a model in which Apple’s control of hardware, operating systems, and update distribution determines how quickly new assistant features reach users.

The trend: Consumer-device AI is being embedded into coordinated operating-system releases, making platform distribution as important as the assistant itself.

If you pressed “Upgrade to iOS 27” and are instead getting 26.7, congratulations: you are *not* alone 🙃 #iOS27

it seems like you have to update to iOS 26.7 before iOS 27 becomes available to download weird bug or its on purpose

One convenient lil Siri AI thing: it can find and paste in numbers normal AutoFill can't. For example, select a form field in Safari and say to Siri “paste in my national insurance number

Just an FYI. iOS 27 public release is a different build than iOS 27 RC. Turn off beta updates and you will have an update

John Ternus took it personally and announced Siri AGI, for real. Just read this.

iOS 27 is here and so is Siri AI! Though only in English (womp) on iPhone 15 Pro and newer models (double womp), and not in the EU (triple womp). If you get the new Siri, you might as well try it. It's right there. Full vid on prompts to get you started on YT. 🎥: @XavierTYWang / …

I've been using the iOS 27 developer betas and New Siri is really good. This is the interaction paradigm and plug-in architecture they can iterate and iterate until it *wins I say *wins because Apple has made a runtime for an ecosystem, not a monolithic product
