OpenAI rolls out GPT-6 Astra to Plus, Pro, Enterprise, and Business Standard and Premium users in ChatGPT Work and Codex and in the API

We're introducing GPT-6 Astra, the world's most intelligent and aligned model. The Tech Portal:OpenAI's ‘GPT-6 Astra’ can do anything your computer can, and moreAmritanshu Mukherjee /Financial Express:OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra vs GPT-5.6 Sol: Which one should you choose in ChatGPTAmanda Caswell /Tom's Guide:ChatGPT-6 Astra is here — this one prompt shows what it can really doMaria Deutscher /SiliconANGLE:OpenAI starts rolling out its next-generation GPT-6 Astra modelBen Schoon /9to5Google:OpenAI launc

Context & Ripple Effects

OpenAI first positioned Astra for its Daybreak program and described it as a generational leap. The broader release turns that limited introduction into a distribution test across ChatGPT Work, Codex and developer integrations, following computer-use tests that OpenAI says beat the average person on selected web tasks.

The rollout is backed by OpenAI's largest reported training run, using more than 100,000 GPUs at its Texas Stargate site. That infrastructure scale matters because Astra is being offered both as an end-user product and as metered API capacity.

First-order effects

  • Plus, Pro, Enterprise and Business users gain Astra in ChatGPT Work and Codex, while developers can integrate the model through OpenAI's API.
  • API buyers receive a defined pricing benchmark of $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens; OpenAI has also matched Anthropic's Claude Fable 5.1 pricing.

Second-order effects

  • Anthropic faces a more direct pricing and distribution response as OpenAI places a comparably priced frontier model in both workplace subscriptions and the API.
  • Enterprise buyers can compare a single model across employee-facing ChatGPT Work, coding workflows in Codex and custom API applications, concentrating evaluation around operational task performance rather than standalone chat quality.

Third-order effects

  • If computer-use capability proves reliable in workplace deployments, frontier-model competition shifts toward control of the workflow surface—chat clients, coding tools and APIs—not just benchmark leadership.
  • The reported 100,000-plus-GPU training run raises the capital and infrastructure threshold for providers seeking to supply comparable models at broad subscription and API scale.

The trend: Frontier AI vendors are pairing costly model training with broad workplace and developer distribution to compete on the cost and reliability of completed digital tasks.

Astra, retire me in 1 week.

We are progressing through the rollout of Astra. Pro and Business subscriptions get it first, some of you should start seeing it across ChatGPT Work and Codex. And then we will proceed with rollout to all of Plus as fast as we can.

OpenAI making Astra available so quickly is crazy to me given their coms around it - I have to assume that they basically just moved heaven and earth to get compute online to fix the negative reception to it not being immediately available? Is very much appreciated

Astra limits just got boosted ~50% OpenAI updated the docs with higher 5-hour message estimates: > Plus: 5-45 messages (was 3-30) > Pro 5x: 25-225 (was 15-150) > Pro 20x: 100-900 (was 60-600) astra access has started rolling out too. check yours happy astra day everyone

I had an early access to GPT-6 Astra and I can say, everyone in the world now has a 3D designer at their fingertips. I gave it an image of a house and asked to create it in 3D with all the details including toys, appliances and furniture. This a full 3D model reconstruction in Bl…

GPT-6 Astra recreated the Palace of Fine arts in Blender. This is favorite building in San Francisco because it was built for the World's Fair in 1914 where the steam locomotive and telephone were showed off. It was a time when technology gave us all a deep sense of optimism for …

I had early access to GPT-6. This model will completely shatter your understanding of what's possible, and it will start a new era of creativity. It's hard to explain how big of a jump this is, so I'll share my tests. 1/6 Made this 3D model and animation in code from an image.

This seems importantly wrong in the second paragraph. A monitor forcing you to not put some info in the CoT does not make the CoT useless to you. You can otherwise use the CoT for its usual purposes, without explicit reasoning about the misaligned part. Humans do this often.

GPT-6 Astra built this Manhattan world in Unreal Engine over the course of a week. It was literally able to go street by street to make each one perfect.

Astra is very good at 3D modeling, and I can't wait for all of you to experience it, for now here is a little walkthrough on how I built the demo house for our launch blog post. From a Blender scene to a Unreal Engine 5 walkable experience. 🧵

Token crowdfunding would be an incredible unlock for mega-projects like this. With enough tokens, I'd bet Astra could build a world-scale GTA-style game. Imagine if everyone could contribute their tokens... people would be able to build unbelievable things.

I guess we're allowed to talk about it now... Astra has absolutely blown my mind. I did get early access to test it out and it's definitely felt like the biggest leap we've seen in a long time! I asked it to make me a humanoid wolf in Blender, it used computer use, took control o…

GPT-6 Astra is a beast. Give it a Zillow listing. It can 3D model the house based on the listing photos and create a cool promotion video. The video was just created in one shot and there are still some wrong details. But I am sure it will be much better if I ask it to polish fur…

Astra's 3D work has been blowing my mind. Thomas went from a floor plan to a Blender scene to a house you can walk around in Unreal Engine 5. Even the coffee machine works! 🤯 See how he built it in the thread. We're working hard to bring Astra to you all as soon as possible.
  • @tomkrcha Tom Krcha on x
So how good really is GPT-6 Astra at 3D modeling? I took an old drawing of a steam train, gave it to Astra to reconstruct it in Blender. After few minutes it crafted 3,295 fully editable detailed objects with beautiful geometry. You can obviously tell it how detailed or simplifie…

Not to downplay Astra. But I am somewhat unimpressed by these 3D models. What is the purpose or economic value of any of this? A video of your living room?

Some revelations from the 117 page system card of OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra - Astra's ability to deliberately control the form of its own chain of thought jumped dramatically: 60.9% versus 16.1% for GPT-5.6 Sol at comparable reasoning lengths. -

GPT-6 Astra makes significant gains in the Artificial Analysis Coding Agent Index, scoring equal to Fable 5 at lower cost. In the Intelligence Index, it uses fewer tokens than GPT-5.6 Sol for similar performance, but this is outweighed by higher prices Pricing is 2.5x GPT-5.6 Sol…

GPT-6 Astra is on the pareto-frontier of cost efficiency due to being EXTREMELY token efficient. It is in a whole league of it's own. It is cheaper than Gemini 3.8 Flash per task (a model 13x cheaper than Astra).

@cheatyyyy The way the cost curve bends backwards on Arc AGI blows my mind. The Max reasoning level is so much better at solving the problems quickly that it actually costs less than if you tried with a lower reasoning effort level
  • @stevenheidel Steven Heidel on x
token pricing is effectively meaningless now. 3.8 flash looks 13x cheaper when measured per token, but Astra is cheaper per task since it's far more efficient. measure your costs per task, not per token.
