Meta rolls out Muse Spark 1.3 in Muse Code and Meta Model API, saying it improves performance across agentic and coding tasks, at the same pricing as Spark 1.2

Meta on Wednesday released Muse Spark 1.3, an update it says significantly improves performance in coding and agentic tasks.

Axios Ina Fried

Context & Ripple Effects

Meta has been extending Muse Spark from powering Meta AI shopping queries to a public developer API and, in August, Muse Code’s beta coding agent. The July 1.1 release had already positioned the line around more advanced coding work.

Version 1.3 puts the same model family into both Meta’s coding surface and API without raising the Spark 1.2 price, making performance-per-token the immediate point of competition rather than access alone.

First-order effects

  • Meta Model API customers and Muse Code users receive Meta’s claimed coding and agentic performance improvements without a change from Spark 1.2 pricing.
  • Meta strengthens the connection between its model endpoint and Muse Code, so improvements to the underlying Spark line can reach both API builders and terminal-agent users.

Second-order effects

  • Teams evaluating coding agents can reassess Meta’s API on cost-adjusted performance rather than treating a model upgrade as a new pricing tier.
  • Meta’s earlier API-preview strategy, begun with Spark 1.1’s public developer release, becomes more valuable as each Spark iteration is available through the same developer-facing channels.

Third-order effects

  • The release points toward agentic-model competition being fought through managed services and work surfaces—APIs plus coding agents—rather than model capability claims in isolation.
  • Meta’s stated plan to release Muse Spark open weights creates a potential split between a broadly available model artifact and Meta-controlled API and Muse Code experiences, if that plan is carried out.

The trend: AI model vendors are bundling faster model iteration with stable API pricing and integrated agent work surfaces to compete on agentic unit economics.

1/ today we're releasing muse spark 1.3—available in muse code & the meta model api. this is our most capable model yet—frontier performance almost too cheap to meter. much stronger at agentic and coding with better usability. we think users will really notice the jump.

Meta's Muse Spark 1.3 just scored 62 on Artificial Analysis' Intelligence Index. That ties Claude Fable 5, but Muse costs 8x less for input and nearly 12x less for output. It also scores above GPT-5.6 Sol, Grok 4.6, Kimi K3, and Gemini 3.8 Flash. Meta is suddenly in the top tier …
