Google unveils Gemini 3.7 Flash, its “most intelligent workhorse model” for coding and agents, priced at $0.75/1M input and $3.75/1M output tokens through 2026

Our most intelligent workhorse model yet for coding and agents.  —  Senior Director, Product Management, on behalf of the Gemini team

Google Tulsee Doshi

Context & Ripple Effects

Google has been stepping down Flash pricing across successive releases: [[a:1169257|Gemini 3.5 Flash was priced at $1.50 per million input tokens and $9 per million output tokens]], while Gemini 3.6 Flash kept input pricing at $1.50 and cut output to $7.50. Gemini 3.7 Flash halves both of those 3.6 rates while Google positions it for coding and agents.

The Flash line began as a lighter, lower-cost counterpart with the same multimodal capabilities as Gemini Pro in Google's Gemini 1.5 Flash launch. The new release pairs that cost trajectory with a stronger “workhorse” positioning rather than treating lower price as a reduced-capability tier.

First-order effects

  • Developers deploying coding and agent workloads on Gemini 3.7 Flash face lower listed token charges than on Gemini 3.6 Flash: $0.75 versus $1.50 for input and $3.75 versus $7.50 for output per million tokens through 2026.
  • Google gives existing Flash customers a new default price-performance option for workloads where repeated model calls make output-token pricing material.

Second-order effects

  • Application builders can lower the operating cost of agent workflows or allocate the same budget to more model interaction, increasing pressure on competing API providers to justify higher token rates with capability or efficiency.
  • Google’s own model selection becomes more segmented: 3.7 Flash targets higher-capability coding and agent work, while the previously listed 3.5 Flash-Lite price leaves a cheaper option for lighter workloads.

Third-order effects

  • If successive Flash releases continue to improve capability while lowering listed rates, model providers will compete less on a single token price and more on the cost of completing useful agent tasks, including token efficiency.
  • The pattern makes inference pricing a more explicit customer-acquisition lever for Google, tying its model releases to the economics of software built on its APIs.

The trend: Frontier-model vendors are turning stronger, cheaper inference into the core competitive lever for coding and agent workloads.
