Sources: Kimi developer Moonshot told investors it is preparing for a Hong Kong IPO in as early as six months; its ARR hit $300M in June, up from $200M in April
Moonshot AI has told investors it's preparing to list in as early as six months, seizing the opportunity to tap capital markets …
Bloomberg
Context & Ripple Effects
Moonshot’s reported listing timetable follows a sequence of financing and corporate-preparation steps: it raised about $2 billion at a $20 billion-plus valuation in May and was subsequently reported to be reworking its corporate structure for a Hong Kong listing.
The new ARR figure gives that financing path a more concrete operating marker. It follows reports that the company was pursuing a further private round at a $30 billion valuation, linking its prospective public-market pitch to demonstrated revenue growth rather than model announcements alone.
First-order effects
- Moonshot can begin positioning a Hong Kong IPO around a $300 million ARR run rate, while investors gain a newer benchmark against the $200 million reported for April.
- The company’s management, legal, and finance teams face pressure to complete the listing-ready structure previously reported as necessary for compliance and a Hong Kong float.
Second-order effects
- Moonshot’s prospective offering gives late-stage backers a potential liquidity path after its May funding round at a $20 billion-plus valuation, making execution of the IPO process more consequential for their returns.
- Other Chinese AI startups seeking large private rounds or listings will face sharper investor attention on recurring revenue growth and listing eligibility, not only model capability or valuation.
Third-order effects
- If Moonshot reaches market, it would reinforce Hong Kong listings as a financing route for Chinese AI companies able to translate model development into recurring commercial revenue.
- The broader test is whether public investors treat fast-growing ARR as sufficient support for AI-company valuations amid continuing capital needs; Moonshot’s process will be a meaningful signal, not a definitive answer.
The trend: Chinese AI developers are moving from venture-funded model building toward public-market financing narratives anchored in commercialization metrics and listing-ready structures.

1. OpenAI's 5.6 Sol beats Anthropic's still not fully available Mythos in this hacking evaluation. 2. The best open model, Kimi K3, will probably be quite similar to the US proprietary leaders. Everyone now has frontier hacking capabilities.

These findings indicate a narrow window before today's frontier cyber capabilities may become widely accessible without safeguards. It's uncertain how the gap will evolve, but AISI will continue to track it and intends to test Kimi K3 once its weights are released.

Our first public analysis of the open/closed weight gap in frontier cyber capabilities finds it is 4-7 months with GLM-5.2 and DeepSeek V4-Pro, narrowing from 6-10 months through most of 2025. Advanced capabilities are reaching less safeguarded open models faster than before. 🧵 […

Our open weight model evaluations were largely unimpeded by safeguards. Of the two recent open models we tested, DeepSeek V4-Pro occasionally refused narrow cyber tasks, but this was easily circumvented by a small number of repeat attempts at refused tasks.

Some observations on Kimi: 1. It's a very good model! I don't think its performance can be explained away by distillation or anything like that. In agentic coding sessions, it seems pretty much on par with the best public models of Q1 2026. In my fairly limited use, it also s…

Kimi K3 and GLM 5.2 are remarkable in that these labs *underreport* their model's performance on the most valuable evals in official announcements. In DeepSWE, K3 is not 2.5% behind Fable. More like 1%. And cheaper. We're a long way from “benchmaxxing” era. Update accordingly. [i…

Kimi is, as I have been saying, a very good model. But it is not a DeepSeek r1 moment, in that it is roughly where I would expect on the curve rather than an unexpected leap. It will be treated as a DeepSeek moment for a variety of reasons especially as more people hear about it.

A lot of swift conclusions are being drawn about Kimi K3 based on fairly saturated benchmarks and ELOs, rather than actually testing it on very hard problems. The AI frontier has already moved so far that a good model that is a still months behind looks like the future to many.
