Apple releases the first public betas of iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27 Golden Gate, watchOS 27, and tvOS 27, marking the new Siri AI's first public launch

Try the new Siri AI and system-wide performance improvements.  —  Adventurous early adopters, your moment has arrived …

Engadget Will Shanklin

Context & Ripple Effects

Apple introduced its 2026 operating-system lineup in June with performance, design and search changes; the public-beta release moves that rollout from announcement into broader testing across its device platforms.

The new Siri AI’s public availability is a notable step beyond Apple’s 2024 beta cycle, when Apple Intelligence features arrived unevenly and some Siri updates remained incomplete.

First-order effects

  • Public-beta users across Apple’s major operating systems can now test the new Siri AI alongside the announced system-level performance and design changes.
  • Apple gains broader real-world feedback on a Siri rollout that spans iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS and tvOS before general availability.

Second-order effects

  • Developers and app makers have a clearer test environment for assessing how their software behaves with the new system design, search changes and Siri AI.
  • The cross-platform beta raises pressure on Apple to make Siri’s experience consistent across devices, rather than treating AI capabilities as a limited feature set on one operating system.

Third-order effects

  • If the public testing translates into a complete release, Apple’s assistant is shifting from a periodically redesigned interface toward a core, platform-wide AI layer.
  • The rollout also illustrates a broader transition from staged, feature-by-feature AI previews to integrating AI into annual operating-system release cycles, though the eventual scope remains dependent on what reaches the final software.

The trend: This is one data point in the shift toward making generative-AI assistants a shared operating-system capability across an entire device ecosystem.

iOS 27 is finally out via public beta! I wrote for @verge about how much Siri AI has been impressing me, but why Apple needs to court developers (looking mostly @google ) to truly make it work this time. For real for real on god. No cap. https://www.theverge.com/... h/t [image]

IMHO, stable enough on iPhone and Mac for anyone to use! iPad is weirdly buggy still, and I haven't tested watchOS. (If you have highly specialized Mac workflows, don't update yet of course)

I've been running iOS 27 Betas on all devices since WWDC26 and they are by far the best betas in years.

Re: the Siri waitlist, Apple says it will gradually open access for testing. Crazy. A waitlist for a Siri people will actually want to use. What a difference a year makes.

It's a very good beta 👏 Just do it [image]

iOS 27 public beta is out. It's the first beta in years (maybe ever?) that feels stable enough for me to recommend on day one. Now, good luck getting off the Siri waitlist. [video]

@gregjoz congrats, from a sheer performance & siri update it's likely one of the best in the last 10 years.

This has been the most stable and great experience of a beta so far If you're interested in iOS 27, now is the time to install the public beta and try it out! New Siri really is fantastic

Siri AI will probably be a massive success.  It's also not really for me...at least not yet.  —  After a month with iOS 27, I wrote about what Siri AI gets right, where it still falls apart, and why its limitations may be central to Apple's goal.  —  Siri AI and Apple's Trickle-U…
