I'm excited to share that I'll be joining OpenAI and look forward to working with the exceptional team there. It was a difficult decision to move on. I'm incredibly proud of the amazing team at Google and everything we've built together. It has been an honor and a pleasure to

Very excited to welcome @NoamShazeer to OpenAI as our new lead for architecture research! His work on transformers, MoE, and efficient decoding have shaped modern AI. He's extremely AGI-pilled and is super thoughtful about making it all go well. Welcome, Noam!

Very much looking forward to work with Noam! I have said many times that the research culture in OAI is unparalleled in my opinion, and I can't wait to see what someone like Noam will do in such an environment.

OpenAI just fixed their supposed “scaling pretraining problem”

So so excited — we're in a fast moving time and RSI seems increasingly close but human ingenuity has a role for at least a little while longer and I'm so honored to get an opportunity to work with Noam!

Deepmind <> Brain merger was the best thing that happened to Anthropic and OpenAI?

OpenAI already has the best RL stack, and now it will have the best pretraining stack (again)

Noam's leaving Google makes Gemini's future feel uncertain. More than one DeepMind person has told me Noam saved Gemini. There's even lore that he tweaked a few lines of training code and Gemini's quality instantly jumped. Gemini's coding ability still feels behind. I really

Noam Shazeer - co-author of the Transformer, T5, and Switch Transformer papers, and one of the pioneers of sparse MoE models - is leaving his VP Engineering / Gemini co-lead role at Google DeepMind to join OpenAI This is likely the most significant AI talent move of the year.

So, OpenAI got the best person to save their pre training Let's see how it plays out

Noam Shazeer, the AI legend Google paid $2.7B to bring back two years ago, has left Google, to join OpenAI. Brutal news for Gemini.

“Google licensing Character AI for $2.7B to get Noam has to be one of the worst 4 deals since AOL x Time Warner. It's like if the Lakers signed Dwight Howard...but for $900M...on an expiring contract...and got bounced in the first round...and then he left...for the CELTICS” [imag…

Noam shazeer should have negotiated comp to be the dollar amount that Google will underperform mega cap peers on announcement of him leaving lmao

Google paid $2.7b to lure Noam Shazeer back to Google, got stuck with a bunch of lawsuits and MAGA-coded group messages and now he is going to OpenAI.

Really glad Dean is joining OpenAI. He's spent a lot of time thinking seriously about the biggest questions frontier labs need to get right: risk, governance, frontier policy issues, and what comes next. We won't always agree on everything, which is a good thing. This is a really

I'm simultaneously very happy for Dean, but also sad to have another extremely bright, independent voice join the labs. At least OpenAI is more willing to let people speak freely. I hope that can continue.

Twitter community, I would like you to perform a public service. Please take a moment to calibrate how unhinged Dean's posting has been. Now, resolve that you will dunk on his ass if he lets incentives make him noticeably less unhinged. Dean, we're watching, and rooting for you.

I am pleased and honored to announce that, on July 6, I'll be joining @OpenAI as leader of a new team called Strategic Futures. Our mandate will be to help the company's leadership shape frontier AI policy. There is a ton of work to do, and I'm excited to get started. [image]
