Welp, that happened faster than I predicted. Thought it would be end of 2027, then early 2027, but agentic traffic growing so fast that bots have now passed human traffic online for the first time in the Internet's history. https://radar.cloudflare.com/ ...

@avi_press Last few months. Data a bit messy (so charts are too). But clearly on the other side now.

@dee_bosa Clearly it's going to be pay to crawl. Now just need the protocols and infrastructure to support the volume it'll require. Working on it.

@eastdakota Well if a human asks Grok a question, Grok searches several or perhaps dozens of sites to generate a response. Plus all the other LLMs, multiplied by a bunch of user queries. I'm surprised humans are still 42% actually

The agent economy is growing faster than expected, even when you take into account that it will grow faster than expected.

What he actually means is “bot traffic”

Massive change for how the internet works. The web is going headless, and that changes the economics of search/discovery/traffic/monetization

    Quiet but important milestone.

@eastdakota I think it's worth distinguishing between “bots” and “agents”; most bot traffic is definitely not agents, it's scripts
  • @eastdakota Matthew Prince on x
@CurtTigges Bot / Crawler / Agent are all synonyms depending on whether you want them to be a good or bad thing, normatively.

@eastdakota @CurtTigges Doesn't that mean you're overstating the presence of ai “agents” vs regular bots
