Many have reached out to me regarding the new Cyber EO. A few thoughts: First, President Trump is the most pro-innovation president we've ever had...The change in the EO from a 90 day to 30 day period is a game changer because it allows our AI labs to comply with the voluntary f…

The new AI Executive Order is finally out. It does three big things: ✅ Establishes a 30-day voluntary frontier review process — led by Treasury, DoW, NSA, White House OSTP, and DHS/CISA. ✅ DOJ will prioritize cases in which AI is used for cybercrime. ✅ CISA and OMB will [image]

Wow. This EO is almost exactly similar to the leaked text from the EO POTUS chose not to sign because it was too regulatory. The only major difference is that the “voluntary” pre-deployment review process is now 30 days rather than 90. That is a concession, but a very small on…

This EO sets up a bad outcome in frontier AI governance: the government regulating AI models you aren't allowed to use in a way you aren't allowed to know about. That outcome is not here yet, but the direction of travel is apparent. If Biden had done this, every libertarian wou…

At the end, the only major change was the threshold reduction (which is welcome), but most of the other issues were unaddressed. I still think this EO gets it mostly right, but it relies too much on the executive making good judgement calls. And that's not always a given.

Breaking: President Trump has signed his AI security executive order: https://www.whitehouse.gov/... It's virtually the same as the draft he scrapped earlier, except the voluntary government review of AI models would be up to 30 days before release, not up to 90. [image]

In my opinion, that version was directionally correct, but there were some details about the review process that had to be ironed out. As @neil_chilson put it best, it gave agencies too much discretion in defining what models are covered. Clearer criteria was needed.

AI is developing rapidly. This administration is right to recognize the cybersecurity risks posed by advanced models. Now, it's Congress's turn. We must address catastrophic risk without ceding ground to China or restricting Americans' free expression. https://www.whitehouse.gov/…

Key provisions in the White House EO on AI Innovation and Security (hot off the presses): - Consistent with the draft EO leaked a few days ago, the EO establishes a *voluntary* framework enabling frontier labs to “provide access” to a new “covered frontier model” to the USG.
