Sources: Sony's Bungie plans significant layoffs as it ends development on its online game Destiny 2 with no new projects lined up; Destiny 2 launched in 2017

The Sony subsidiary will focus on ‘Marathon’ rather than jumping directly to ‘Destiny 3’  —  Sony Group Corp.'s Bungie unit …

While this is certainly not going to be pretty, even with those losses Sony still values Bungie at like $2.9 billion. The studio won't dissolve, Marathon will get a year, etc. I am very concerned about potential layoffs, as even when Final Shape was a big hit, those happened

And everyone who mismanaged that studio will land on their feet.

Yeah, this is, unfortunately, where this was going I don't think the IP can be declared eternally dead, but this was never a put Destiny 2 down, pick Destiny 3 up and keep going situation. If D3 ever does happen they'd have to staff up significantly again

the fury that's about to come down on Marathon, which has been underperforming Destiny 2 in its worst content draught in history

Sony paid $3.6 billion for nothing. One of the greatest cons in history. It's actually astonishing that Bungie, Bethesda and Activision hollowed themselves out with DEI, grotesque short-sighted management decisions, money-grubbing monetization and wild contempt for key talent,

Bloomberg reports Bungie is planning layoffs after ending Destiny 2 development. - Destiny 3 is not in active development - Bungie will focus on Marathon - Bungie staff are pitching and prototyping new ideas including Destiny games, but none are greenlit yet [image]

So the goal all along was to gut Destiny 2 for Marathon only for Marathon to average fewer players than Destiny. GGs. Milking a roadmap for 9 months just to post this is actually pathetic.

It's over. Layoffs planned after Destiny 2 end of life next month. Bloomberg is reporting no new projects greenlit. No path forward except supporting Marathon. What a waste of 3.7 Billion dollars. [image]

I am much less optimistic about a D3, if this is accurate. Not sure what the path forward is but heart goes out to any creative minds caught up in Pete Parsons aftermath. https://www.bloomberg.com/...

Sony shut down studios they owned with some of the most talented pool of devs in the world (Japan Studio, Evolution, Psygnosis) and spent 3.6 billions on Bungie that was not just overpaid but impossible to manage just because D2 was a success. Now look at their catalog. A shame!

Marathon isn't big enough or makes enough money to sustain Bungie. Sony already lost money on the purchase. The studio that created Halo is about to be shut down.

Welp, there it is 🤦🏻‍♂️  —  There's no way that Bungie can stay afloat with just Marathon.  Marathon has an almost zero percent chance of being a big game.  The fact that they're pivoting to make a PvE mode to try to make it more like Destiny says something about the longevity of…
