  Personal update: I've joined Anthropic. I think the next few years at the frontier of LLMs will be especially formative. I am very excited to join the team here and get back to R&D. I remain deeply passionate about education and plan to resume my work on it in time.

  Andrej @karpathy is back in the game! I would have loved for him to rejoin @OpenAI, but I'm happy he's at any frontier lab pushing the field forward. It's easy to frame this as zero-sum among the labs, but in truth we're collectively advancing the most important tech of our era.

  @karankendre Anthropic will not be destroyed. Their AI+harness goes far beyond coding and Opus 4.7 is still better than Composer 2.5, albeit a lot more expensive. Cursor is however an important piece of the puzzle to make Grok much better.

  As companies approach AGI it would be illogical for most not to go and work there. AGI is a much bigger deal than most people still seem to believe & it is only by most forecasts a few years away (if not arrived already!).

  Am I the only one disappointed by this news? I get it. Anthropic is the new superstar, so of course they want top talent. But they're so safety captured, they can't seem to get out of their own way on some issues. I kinda felt like Andrej was better than this. Don't get

  Karpathy hasn't said what exactly he's going to work on, but I don't think he's getting into the weeds of optimizers or hardware or whatever I think he's going to work on something higher-level my best guess is auto-research [image]
