Meta rolls out new features for its Ray-Ban Display glasses, including neural handwriting support for all users, and opens up support for third-party apps

Meta’s smart-glasses line has moved from the camera, audio, and microphone-led Ray-Ban Meta product toward multimodal AI features such as object identification, translation, and caption writing. The Display model added an in-lens screen and the Neural Band’s gesture-based input layer.

Making neural handwriting broadly available and admitting third-party apps extends that Display hardware from a set of Meta-defined features toward a more flexible computing surface. The significance is less the individual update than the widening of both input and software options around the device.

  • Ray-Ban Display users gain access to neural handwriting support, expanding the ways they can enter or control information alongside the Neural Band’s gesture detection.

    As someone who has been deep in the Meta XR developer ecosystem for a few years, this doesn't really feel like them panicking to me. It has been the norm for Meta's XR division to announce SDKs and then release them 6 months later. Meta likes to show new products and release

    Meta dropped the Ray-Ban Display developer SDK less than a month before WWDC. I am not saying Apple has something massive coming. I am just saying Meta does not panic in public for no reason.
