Apple sends invites for a “special Apple Experience” event on March 4 in New York City; rumors suggest an M5 MacBook Pro, entry-level iPad Air, and iPhone 17e

MacRumors Hartley Charlton

Context & Ripple Effects

The invitation turns a previously reported first-half 2026 product roadmap into a near-term launch watch: Apple's reported plans for M5 Macs, lower-end iPads and an iPhone 17e included the same product families now linked to March 4.

Apple has also used spring events to foreground iPad updates, including the May 2024 event expected to bring new iPads. This event's rumored mix would extend that format across Mac, iPad and iPhone lines, though the products remain unconfirmed.

First-order effects

  • Apple can concentrate attention on its March 4 New York event, while prospective MacBook Pro, iPad Air and iPhone buyers await confirmed specifications, prices and availability.
  • The invite gives the rumored M5 MacBook Pro, entry-level iPad Air and iPhone 17e a shared potential launch window; it does not confirm that any of them will be announced.

Second-order effects

  • A combined launch would make Apple’s messaging and retail planning more interdependent across three device categories, rather than treating each refresh as a separate reveal.
  • Accessory makers, carriers and retail partners will have to hold product-specific plans loosely until Apple confirms which devices are actually part of the event.

Third-order effects

  • If Apple continues to bundle updates across Mac, iPad and iPhone at spring events, its launch calendar may increasingly serve as a coordinated upgrade prompt across its device portfolio.
  • The pattern would reinforce a product strategy in which lower-priced iPhone and iPad options sit alongside performance-led Mac updates, broadening the set of buyers addressed by a single event.

The trend: Apple is positioning spring events as potential cross-category refresh points that pair accessible devices with new-generation Mac hardware.

I'm expecting this low cost MacBook, new MacBook Airs, new MacBook Pros, new Mac displays over the course of the next several weeks. There's also a new Mac Studio, iMac and Mac mini this year. Huge year for the Mac. And that doesn't even include the touch MacBook Pro end of 2026.

Wow! 3 unique colors for the MacBook, alongside silver and maybe dark gray, like Gurman mentioned. Same colors for iPad 12. Really curious to see which other MacBooks will show up at the end. Either way, it'll be expensive lol.

I really hope it's M5 Max I want it just so I can run local models without that solid 10-45 second wait for prefill to process It unfortunately ruins the experience of the great local models if you are doing anything real time. For async who cares

Woah! Apple announcing an event 2.5 weeks ahead. That's quite rare! Getting rid of all the speculation all at once lol.

It's not an “event” it's an “experience.” [image]

There is no way Apple is going to hold on-stage in person keynotes in three places at once. They are bold but that would just be ridiculous. I would guess these things get announced online and this events are hands-on looks and deeper dives into the products.

Worth pointing out the three colors from the invite are light green, blue and yellow — which just so happen to be the colors Apple has tested the low-cost MacBook with, as I wrote yesterday. Coincidence? We shall see. https://www.bloomberg.com/... [image]

The inclusion of Shanghai essentially rules out Siri, as expected, given the delays.
