iPad Air (2022) review: fast with the M1 chip and great display but Touch ID is not as convenient as Face ID and the front camera is awkward in landscape mode

I spent the past week using the new iPad Air with M1. It's the most balanced iPad in Apple's lineup, now with iPad Pro performance. If iPadOS 16 doesn't bring any new pro features, I may switch to this. My story: iPad Air 2022 Review: Refined Balance https://www.macstories.net/..…

We're once again in the existential crisis period of iPad cycle. iPad is two things: hardware — which is incredible, and platform, which evolves in fits and starts. Still so much untapped potential on the table; where are you going with this, and why is it taking so long?

@viticci Do you really believe that? I've used an Air after using my 12.9" Pro, and the 120 Hz is hard to unsee when you don't have it anymore. Almost jarring, to be honest.

Just under 2 days before I'm excited to bring you guys thorough coverage of the Mac Studio and M1 Ultra chip. What info are you seeking most?
  • @viticci Federico Viticci on x
@joshjagdfeld Depending on how things go with iPadOS this year, if I decide to primarily work from macOS again, I think I could live with the Air even without ProMotion.

you know, Steve Jobs once said that software on “smart phones” was like baby software when introducing iPhoneOS and that's exactly how I feel about iPadOS. it's like baby software for iPad. https://twitter.com/...

We're never not in this state. I think at some point you just realize there is no “plan”. It's not going anywhere. It is what it is, an easy way to use existing components (iOS, Apple silicon) to get a fairly reliable number of extra sales. [Quote tweets @stroughtonsmith from 201…

How does iPad expand to bigger screens, new forms? All pieces are already in OS — menu bar, windowing, mouse & keyboard — for a profound expansion of UI & platform, if they were just rearranged. Years go by, little happens. Intentionally held back to avoid stepping on Mac's toes …

My favorite detail of the new iPad Air: the new Blue color. It's a real color! It may not seem like it, but the iPad on the left is the 2020 iPad Air in ‘Sky Blue’. New Air on the right. https://www.macstories.net/... https://twitter.com/...

I'm loving the new iPad Air. It has the power of my iPad Pro but the size of something that fits the current version of iPadOS. Also blue, a real blue. I didn't have to do any weird tricks to get the blue to show up in the video. 🥲

iPad Air is a solid default option for many users, but its likely to appeal strongly to institutional buyers with M1 and USB-C. https://t.co/5EKt0C009F
