(1/4) China's COVID-19 lockdown is starting to affect iPhone assembly. Pegatron, the 2nd largest iPhone EMS, has already halted assembly in Shanghai & Kunshan. In the best-case scenario, complete resumption of production may not be possible until late April or early May. https://…

(2/2) Quanta is almost the sole EMS supplier for MacBook, so among Apple's main products, MacBook has been the most affected amid China lockdowns due to Quanta's halted production.

It seems to be affecting Macbook assembly too. My MacBook Pro order, which I placed on Feb 13, has just been delayed *again* to May (it was originally late March then early April). I talked to someone at apple was told it's due to Covid lockdowns. https://twitter.com/... https://…

(1/2) Foxconn at least can partially support iPhone and iPad supply to lower the impacts of discontinued operations at Pegatron and Compal. https://asia.nikkei.com/...

If things like this persist, Apple's 2022 guidance that they release at earnings this month will be nasty. https://twitter.com/...

(4/4) However, the longer the lockdown lasts, the further effect on consumer confidence would likely raise and would probably be detrimental to the shipments of consumer electronics (including Apple's products) in 2H22.

(3/4) Although it's hard to predict future lockdown changes, Apple has the best supply chain management capabilities and a good relationship with the Chinese government, so I think Apple can minimize the impact of a lockdown on supply.

Key #iPhone, MacBook, iPad suppliers have to halt production for the time being, in a latest sign that lockdowns in #Shanghai, Kunshan areas in China start to bite US tech giants of Apple, Dell, HP, others @NikkeiAsia https://asia.nikkei.com/...
