A bit more detail on the Inflection / Microsoft news: sources tell me at @Forbes that there's an undisclosed financial component to Inflection's licensing its API to Microsoft, providing a path for Inflection investors to be made whole over time. https://www.forbes.com/...

Oh wow I'd forgotten that Microsoft led the $1.3b investment into Inflection, and Reid sits on Microsoft board.

Satya really is getting the best of both worlds. He and his team are bigger master minds then we thought. Which makes them not having a board seat on Open AI much weirder.

I'm glad that Microsoft, having narrowly avoided a messy situation with OpenAI just four months ago, found a new and unique way to create a messy situation.

this inflection thing is honestly wild. they raised 1.3B 9 months ago from MSFT and were founded less than 2 years ago. and the CEO just bailed. to go work at MSFT. is there any historical precedent for this? story has to be more complex than what meets the eye.
  • @marvinvonhagen Marvin von Hagen on x
At this rate, Satya will next acquire a majority stake in NVIDIA and hire Steve Jobs as head of MS Office

If your founder raises $1.3B and then walks away just a few months later, methinks things are REALLY not going well.

Between OpenAI and now Inflection leadership hiring + simultaneous Inflection partnership, it feels like there's some expert antitrust avoidance on the part of Microsoft going on here.

I've said it and will say it again. Concentration of power is the biggest risk in AI!
  • @om @om on x
The most obvious story is that like Deepmind, Inflection could build amazing tech, raise a mountain of money, but wasn't able to figure out a “business” model around AI. In fact that is the real question of 2024-2025: not which model is the biggest.
  • @lexnfx Alexei Oreskovic on x
MSFT/Suleyman is wild on so many levels 1. Is it acquihire or acquisition? (bbg story glosses over this nontrivial antitrust issue) 2. Inflection cofounder Reid Hoffman is on MSFT board 3. Oh btw, RIP Pi, the hyped and well-funded chatbot. That can't bode well for AI boom.
